地錦抄に云く
蛇莟（シャカン）草 地錦抄に曰く、含はカンに非ず、莟（カン）なり。同書にヘビイチゴとある

これすなわち狼牙に当たるべし。地錦抄の図であろうか。
形状を蛇䘖とする
大和本草に云く
キラン草
異苑に云く、田父（田舎の農夫）がいて、一匹の蛇が傷を被っているのを見た。
一匹の蛇が一つの草を咥んで、瘡の上に着け、一日を経て
傷ついた蛇は去った。田父はそこでその草を取って
蛇の瘡を治すと、皆効験があったので、名づけて蛇䘖草という。
本草綱目に曰く、女青はすなわち
蛇䘖の根である。別に女青があり、名を
雀瓢という。女青には二種あり、ただ
藤生と草生の分かれがある。
蛇莟 和名 宇豆末米久左（ウマツメクサ）、一には幾羅牟左宇（キランソウ）と云う
増補異名 蛇䘖（カン） 本径 威蛇（大明）
小龍芽（リウケ） 綱目 紫背龍牙（図径）

Kiran grass
According to Igen: There was a farmer who saw a snake that had been wounded.
One snake held a grass in its mouth and placed it on the wound, and after one day passed,
the injured snake departed. The farmer then took that grass and
used it to treat snake wounds, and all were effective, so it was named snake-holding grass.
According to Honzō Kōmoku, female indigo is namely
the root of snake-holding plant. There is another female indigo, named
sparrow gourd. There are two types of female indigo, differing only
between vine-growing and grass-growing varieties.
