なりと漢家（かんか）本朝（ほんてう）に至（いた）りてこれを
愛（あい）す代々（よ〳〵）の美（び）人みな軽粉（けいふん）をたや
さぬことは哥（うた）によみ詩（し）につくりたりさ
れば女の白粉（はくふん）紅粉（こうふん）をもつていろどる
ことあながちに顔色（がんしよく）をますばかりの
事にあらず是（これ）女の礼（れい）なれは其 心（こゝろ）を
もつておしろひをかろく紅粉（べに）など
つくるもそのこゝろえあるべきなり

現代語訳
【右丁 上段】
女中平生身持鏡
そもそも紅粉や翠黛は女性の美しさを彩る道具である
と中国や日本において愛用されてきた。代々の美人は皆軽粉を絶やさ
ないことを歌に詠み詩に作ってきた。そ
れゆえ女性が白粉や紅粉で彩る
ことは、ひたすら顔色を増すばかりの
ことではない。これは女性の礼儀なので、その心を
もって白粉を軽く、紅など
をつけるのもその心得があるべきである。
○眉は身分の高低を問わず今は墨を
引くものである。これは昔の遊女の風俗である。
そもそも眉の描き方はほのかなものを遠山
の霞に例え、また弓張月の入るのに
も例えた。ただ優雅にして華

○額の際の墨はどのようにもほのかに
薄々とあるべきである。その様子は雲の中の
雁の羽を延ばして霞を延ばすのに
似ているといわれる。

Now, rouge and eyebrow paint are tools for enhancing feminine beauty,
beloved in China and Japan. Beauties of every generation have never
gone without cosmetic powder, composing songs and poems about this. There-
fore, when women adorn themselves with white powder and rouge,
it is not merely to enhance their complexion.
This is feminine etiquette, so with that spirit
one should apply powder lightly, rouge and such
with proper understanding.
○Eyebrows, regardless of social rank, are now drawn with ink.
This follows the custom of courtesans of old.
The way of drawing eyebrows should be subtle, likened to distant mountain
mist, and also compared to the setting

○The ink at the hairline should be applied very subtly
and thinly. This appearance is said to
resemble a wild goose in the clouds stretching its wings
through the mist.
