七夕（たなはた）のうたづくし
たなばたのいのる手向（たむけ）やしげからん
あけてそかへるかぢのことの葉（は）
夜（よ）もすから星合（ほしあい）の空（そら）にたてまつる
香（かう）のけふりや雲（くも）となるらん
七夕の逢ふ夜（よ）の庭（には）にをくことの
あたりにひくはさゝがにのいと
たきものを雲（くも）の衣（ころも）に匂（にほ）はせて
七夕つめのくれをまつらむ
しら露（つゆ）の玉（たま）のをことの手向（たむけ）して
庭（には）にかゝくる秋（あき）のともしひ
七夕のいほはたたてゝをるぬのの
あきさり衣（ころも）たれかそめけん
天（あま）の川くらしかねたるともし妻（つま）
わたるをいそくぬさ手向（たむけ）なり

七夕の歌づくし
七夕に祈る手向けは多いことだろう
明けて帰る梶の葉の言葉
夜通し星合いの空に奉る
香の煙は雲となるだろう
七夕の逢う夜の庭に置く琴の
辺りに引くは蜘蛛の糸
焚き物を雲の衣に匂わせて
七夕姫の暮れを待とう
白露の玉の緒琴の手向けして
庭に掛ける秋の灯火
七夕の機織り小屋を建てて織る布の
秋去り衣は誰が染めたのだろう
天の川暮らしかねる灯し妻
渡るを急ぐ幣手向けなり
書き尽くす梶の七葉の思うこと

なお余りある秋の夕暮れ
七夕の絶えぬ契りを添えようとか
羽を並べる鵲の橋
彦星の天の岩船を船出して
今夜は磯に磯枕をする
天の川今夜逢う瀬の行く末を

一年に一夜と思えど七夕の
逢い見る秋の限りなきかな

A Collection of Tanabata Poems
The offerings prayed for at Tanabata must be numerous indeed
The words on the kaji leaves that return at dawn
All night long we offer to the sky where stars meet
The incense smoke will surely become clouds
The koto placed in the garden on the night when Tanabata lovers meet—
Around it stretches a spider's thread
Let the fragrant incense perfume the robes of clouds
As we await the evening of the Weaver Maid
Offering a koto of white dewdrops strung like jewels
The autumn lanterns hung in the garden
Building a weaving hut for Tanabata and weaving cloth—
Who dyed these autumn farewell robes?
The lamp-wife who finds it hard to live by the Milky Way
Hurries to cross, this is an offering of sacred streamers
Writing down all thoughts on the seven kaji leaves

Still there is more in this autumn evening
Would they add to Tanabata's eternal vows?
The magpie bridge where wings align
The Cowherd launches his heavenly stone boat
Tonight he rests with the shore as his pillow
The future course of tonight's meeting at the Milky Way

Though it's only one night in a year, at Tanabata
The autumn meetings seem endless
