【続き】「さあ飲み給え」と差し出すと、「何じゃいな、身は下人を連れているのに、何のお前に頼もうぞ」「はて、せっかくの親切を水にするとは理解できぬ」と立ち寄るのを遮る笑々。「ええい、性悪な旦那さんじゃ。男でも女でも何ぞ」と言うと、「あだ者どもめ、もうもうここへは置かれぬ」と無理に五郎を誘って行く。
「さて高慢ちきな若衆めしゃ。ええい、これ、今の騒動で台無し。俺は水だらけ」とつぶやく十郎。どっかりと虎は座って、「ええい、しんどいわしゃ。大小が重うてならぬ。若衆は嫌でございます」と言うのに、十郎が立ち寄って、「この様に姿を変えるのも我が子の行方が尋ねたいから。辛抱しや」と宣める所に、小門口より出てくる下僕小者、禊が走り出て、「これこれ、井戸掘りの作兵衛殿、この頃も言う通り、このお屋敷に十郎様のお子がお出でなされば、ひょっと尋ねて御座ろうも知れぬ。気をつけてくださんせ」と言い捨てて入れば、頷く作兵衛。
「どれ井戸側にかかろう」と言うのを聞いて喜ぶ助成。「もしもし、その十郎と私は友達。その義ならばお屋敷へ今にも連れて参ろうか。そのお子が十郎殿の子でない時はいかにも気の毒。俺もよく見知っているが、その子をちょっと見ることはなるまいか」「おお、そんなら俺がこの半纏を着て、作兵衛が手まじゃと言ってみてござれ。俺は用があるほどに、ちっとここを頼みます」と言い捨てて入れば、十郎は天の与えと喜ぶところへ、時宗は桶屋の道具打ち担げて立ち出づれば、「やあ、貴様はさっきの六方殿」「こなたはさっきの奴殿」「おお、俺はたかが日雇い取り、井戸掘りに頼まれたが、六方が桶屋とは合点が行かぬ」と言えば、「さあ何を隠そう、俺は母の勘当を受けているが、この屋敷の主義盛殿を頼んで母に詫びをしようと思えど、どうも近づく手立てが無いので桶屋と【次へ】

To turn such kindness to water [waste] is incomprehensible," and Shōshō stepped forward to intervene. "Ah, what a disagreeable master! Whether man or woman, what does it matter?" When this was said, [Tokimune replied] "You scoundrels, you cannot remain here any longer," and forcibly led Gorō away.
"What an arrogant young gentleman! Ah, this commotion has ruined everything. I'm soaked with water," muttered Jūrō. Tora sat down heavily: "Ah, how tiresome! These swords are so heavy I can't bear it. I hate this young man's disguise." Jūrō approached her and said, "We disguise ourselves this way because we want to find our child's whereabouts. Please be patient." Just then, servants and retainers came out from the small gate, and Misogi ran out saying, "Hey there, Sakubei the well-digger! As we've been saying lately, if Master Jūrō's child should come to this mansion, he might well come looking. Please be careful," and went back inside. Sakubei nodded.
Hearing him say "Well then, let me get to work by the well," Sukenari rejoiced: "Excuse me, that Jūrō and I are friends. If that's the case, shall I bring him to the mansion right now? If that child is not Master Jūrō's child, it would indeed be pitiful. I know him well too - might I have a quick look at the child?" "Oh, then I'll put on this work coat and you can say Sakubei is your assistant. I have business to attend to, so please take care of things here for a bit." Saying this, he went inside. Just as Jūrō was rejoicing at this heaven-sent opportunity, Tokimune emerged carrying cooper's tools. "Ah! You're that rikoppō fellow from before!" "And you're that servant from before!" "Well, I'm just a day laborer hired for well-digging, but I don't understand how a rikoppō performer can be a cooper." [Tokimune] replied, "Well, why hide it? I've been disowned by my mother, and though I want to appeal to Lord Yoshimori, the master of this mansion, to help me apologize to my mother, I have no way to approach him, so I work as a cooper..." 【Continued】
