六日の朝五つ時までに二十三ヶ村の役人を先立て、川東は石井河原、河西の村々は茂沢河原の浅瀬二ヶ所を固め、「悪党が川を渡さば打ち留めるべし」とこの旨を河向かいの村々へ書付を以て申し遣わす。およそ人数四千六百人ほど川岸に詰めかけ防いだ。依田川方面へは騒動入らず、六日の朝四つ時に村々退散す。
静謐の事
ここに往古村上義清の楯籠もりし砥石の城跡の麓の村に伊勢山という所がある。この村の名主庄右衛門が上田へ願い出たのは、「右の悪党ども押し付け上田へ入るとの風聞に候間、急ぎ搦め取らせられ御尤もにて、それがしかかる川にて防ぎ申すべき間、早々御出でお待ち候」と言い捨て、近郷の百姓まで誘い、川久保の橋に刈り萱を積み上げ、寄せ来たらば火を掛けんと身構えて待ちかけていた。徒党の者どもはかくとは知らず、上田の方へ通らんと太鼓を打ち法螺を吹き立て、うめき叫んで寄せ来るのを見て、相図の狼火を上げる。一揆の者どもは事ともせず橋を渡りかかる所を、かの庄右衛門真っ先に進んで先の纏を切り落とす。続いて来る纏をことごとく切りつけ

By the fifth hour of the morning on the 6th day, they had the officials of twenty-three villages take the lead. On the east side of the river they fortified Ishii Kawara, and the villages on the west side of the river fortified two shallow crossing points at Moshizawa Kawara, sending written notices to the villages across the river stating: "If the villains attempt to cross the river, they shall be struck down." Approximately 4,600 people crowded along the riverbank to defend it. No disturbance entered the Yoda River area, and at the fourth hour of the morning on the 6th day, the villages dispersed.
On the Pacification
Here, at the foot of the ruins of Toishi Castle where Murakami Yoshikiyo had once taken refuge in ancient times, there was a place called Iseyama in a village. The village headman Shōzaemon petitioned Ueda, saying: "We have heard rumors that these villains are pressing forward to enter Ueda. Please quickly capture them. It is most reasonable, and since we shall defend at this river, we eagerly await your swift arrival." Having said this, he even recruited farmers from neighboring villages, piled up cut miscanthus grass on the Kawakubo bridge, and prepared to set it on fire should the enemy approach, waiting in readiness. The members of the rebel band, unaware of this, came forward beating drums and blowing conch shells, wailing and shouting as they attempted to pass toward Ueda. Seeing this, the defenders lit signal fires. The rioters paid no heed and began to cross the bridge, whereupon Shōzaemon rushed forward first and cut down the leading banner.
