私在所信州松代去月廿四日亥刻より大地震之儀先達
而御届申上置候通御座候処其後今以相止兼昼夜何ケ度
と申儀無之折々相震同廿九日朝晦日夕両度ニ三度
強く震有之手遠之村方ハ相分り兼候得共城下町ニハ猶
又潰家等も有之近辺山上ゟ巌石夥敷崩落且兼而
申上置候犀川上手ニ而堰留候場之儀者更級郡之内
安庭村山手林村両村之辺ニ岩倉山と申高山半両端抜
崩壱ケ所ハ三十丁程壱ケ所ハ五町程之間川中江押入其
辺押埋候村方も有之候然ル処多巌石之儀ニ付迚も水勢
ニ而押切兼候様子河之次第ニ湛平水より凡七八丈にも
可及就夫数ケ村水中に相成其辺潮水之躰ニ御座候勿論
種々手当申付候得共大山殊ニ巌石押入候儀ニ付人力ニ
ハ何分届兼可申哉且又川中島郷中之者共ハ右湛水
何方へ一時二押出シ可申哉難計と恐怖仕山之手江立退罷
在丹波島宿等も同様之儀にて人馬継立等出来兼申候

ますが、まずはこの件をお届け申し上げます。以上。

私の在所信州松代では、去る月二十四日亥の刻より大地震の件について、先日お届け申し上げた通りでございますが、その後今もって止むことができず、昼夜何度ということもなく折々震え、同二十九日朝・晦日夕の両度に三度強く震えがありました。手遠の村方は分かりかねますが、城下町にはなおまた潰れた家等もあり、近辺の山上より巌石が夥しく崩落し、かつ兼ねて申し上げておきました犀川上手にて堰き止められた場所については、更級郡の内の安庭村・山手林村両村の辺りで、岩倉山という高山の半分両端が抜け
崩れ、一箇所は三十丁程、一箇所は五町程の間川中へ押し入り、その辺りを押し埋めた村方もあります。しかるところ、多くの巌石のことにつき、とても水勢では押し切りかねる様子で、河の次第に湛えた平水より凡そ七八丈にも及ぶでしょう。それによって数ヶ村が水中に相成り、その辺りは潮水の体でございます。もちろん種々手当を申し付けましたが、大山殊に巌石が押し入った件につき、人力ではなんとも届きかねるでしょうか。かつまた川中島郷中の者どもは、この湛水がいずれへ一時に押し出すか計り難いと恐怖し、山の手へ立ち退いて罷り在り、丹波島宿等も同様のことにて人馬継立等ができかねます。
なお種々手当を申し付け置きましたが、まずこの件をお届け申し上げ、詳細については追って申し上げます。

April 30th Sakakibara Shikibu-dayū
Regarding my domain of Matsushiro in Shinshū Province, concerning the great earthquake from the hour of the Boar on the 24th of last month, which I reported earlier as stated, since then it has not ceased and continues day and night countless times with intermittent tremors. On the morning of the 29th and evening of the last day of the month, there were strong tremors three times on both occasions. While distant villages are difficult to assess, in the castle town there are still more collapsed houses, massive rock falls from nearby mountaintops, and regarding the damming location upstream on the Chikuma River that I previously reported, near both Aniwa Village and Yamate-hayashi Village in Sarashina District, half of both ends of the high mountain called Iwakura-yama collapsed and broke away.
The collapse extends about 30 chō in one location and about 5 chō in another, pushing into the river and burying some village areas in the vicinity. However, due to the massive rocks, it appears that the water force cannot break through them, and the river water has accumulated to reach approximately 7-8 jō above normal water levels. As a result, several villages have become submerged, and the area resembles a tidal zone. Of course, I have ordered various countermeasures, but given that it involves a large mountain and massive rocks pushing in, human effort may not be sufficient. Furthermore, the people of Kawanakajima district, fearing that this accumulated water might burst out somewhere all at once, have evacuated to higher ground in the mountains. Tanba-jima post station and others are in the same situation, making it impossible to provide relay horses and porters.
I have ordered various additional countermeasures, but first I report this matter, and will provide details later.
