里程があるとのことを申し聞いております。この泥水のために、鯉や鮒、鰻の類が水に浮き上がり、川岸へ寄って、大量に手で捕ることができました。これは先達ての御触れもございました通り、変異の儀につき、恐れながら宿継ぎにて申し上げます。

鎌原村のうち生き残った者たち男女九十人は無事とはいえども、生活の手段もなく方々へ散り散りになったのを、八月末に呼び集め、草の家を一軒広く作り、この中に集まって住み、それぞれの稼業で生計を立て、露命をつないでいたところ、御公儀より金二百両を下し置かれ、何とか取り続いて在所の開発をするようにとの仰せを渡されたので、まるで渇いた者が泉水を得て蘇ったような心地がして、喜ぶこと限りありませんでした。さて、このような粗末な住居に大勢が集まって住んでいましたが、夫を失い妻を流されて夫婦が揃っているのは二十人ほどでした。このままでは心細く思い、老若にかかわらず適当に組み合わせて夫婦も定めるべきだということで、年取った者たちが仲人となり親分となって、九月二十日を大吉日として総婚礼を行いました。

Due to this muddy water, carp, crucian carp, eels, and similar fish floated to the surface and drifted to the riverbank, where they could be caught in great quantities by hand. As there was a previous official notice about this matter, I humbly report this unusual occurrence via post relay.

Of those who survived in Kambara Village, ninety men and women were unharmed, but having no means of livelihood, they had scattered in all directions. In late August, they were called together and a large grass hut was built, where they gathered to live, each pursuing their trade to sustain their precarious lives. Then the government granted them two hundred ryō and ordered them to somehow continue and develop their village. This made them feel as if they had been revived like thirsty people finding spring water, and their joy knew no bounds. Now, though many people had gathered in this poor dwelling, only about twenty couples remained intact, having not lost husbands or wives to the disaster. Thinking this situation too uncertain, regardless of age, they decided to appropriately pair people up and arrange marriages. The elderly served as matchmakers and guardians, and on September 20th, designated as a most auspicious day, they held a mass wedding ceremony.
