Retainers of Yusa Mimasaku-no-kami named Bukō and Shiraishi were at Ishidō and fought against Matazaemon-dono's vanguard, dying in battle. At this time, men called Kasama Gihyōe and Togano Zenji served as supporters of Takabatake Iwami and engaged in combat. Hei-no-Kaga-no-kami and Miyake Kosaburo retreated in defeat to Etchū. However, the Himi general Jinbo Ujiharu was taken alive and sent to Shibata-dono, eventually committing seppuku in Echizen.
1. When Araki Uemon-dayū, the castle lord of Matsuto in Kashū, lost his ceremonial sword, he had people investigate and accused someone of theft. A warrior on pilgrimage named Shinano Kurando became suspect. When Kurando heard this, he said "It cannot be helped. What fortune, for the person who speaks of this matter," and if he were to be determined a thief, he would undergo trial by ordeal (tetsuka - divine judgment by hot iron). He posted notices in various places, and at Shinmei shrine in Kanazawa, saying that if he were innocent he would take the hot iron, and though he had never braided rope before, he would follow the law and braided rope. Then he used purification water and showed his hands to the spectators. Afterward he said: "For a samurai to bear such false accusation is a sign that divine punishment has reached its limit. I shall commit seppuku." He had previously asked Inoue Kanzaemon to act as his second, and committed seppuku on the spot.
1. Regarding Kishi Kazue: During Lord Toshinaga's reign, he lost a kōgai (hairpin) in Fushimi. People investigated and accused someone of theft, but did not point to the master. Because of this, he returned to Kashū and announced throughout the eight districts of Kanazawa that he would demonstrate a ritual trial by ordeal, and underwent the ordeal at Asano riverbank. Afterward he served well and was appointed to the position of magistrate of the Kuraya gold mine, but due to poor judicial decisions, he was ordered to commit seppuku.
1. Regarding Taikō's military expedition to Etchū: To subjugate Sassa Kuranoske Narimasa, he positioned his forces at Gofukuyama with the Jinzū River in front. His forces numbered over twenty thousand, while Kuranoske had over ten thousand. The Echizen forces were positioned downstream along the Jinzū River. At that time, Narimasa surrendered, offering three of Etchū's four districts and receiving one district in return for his service. Later he was sent to Tanba with sixty thousand koku, and afterward was sent to Tsukushi.
1. Regarding the honor of Harada Matauemon's grandfather Matauemon: his glory was in letting Lord Toshiie ride his horse during the rear guard action. This happened at the time of Yanagase.
