現代語訳
一、蜂須賀阿波殿へ御使いに参り、御返事申す刻、名を忘れて人に指して「虫」と言ったのは吉田数馬である。
一、越中遣いの間のこと。佐々内蔵助が小原口より当地へ働きかけるにつき、小原までにて上坂又兵衛その外何れも働きありて、内蔵助引き取り後、越中の内松根蓮間等に城を構え番の兵を入れ置く。内蔵助の居城は富山なれば、その身も木舟の城へ出張した。こちらからも朝日という所に付城を拵えて、村井豊後、片山伊賀、岡嶋備中などが有った。しかしながらこちらから中入りして蓮間を焼き払い、豊後並びに片山家礼などが高名した。これにより互いに引き取った。
一、金沢の城天守に雷が落ちたこと。関ヶ原陣の三年目、十月晦日の夜、天守に落雷し火事が起きたため、玉泉院様御同道にて御城外へお出になったところ、天守の鉄砲の薬に火が付き、梁桁柱等に残らず飛び、一つの木が御額に当たった。
一、雷の御屏風のこと。金沢城水の手の傍に利長卿が御座の時、雷が御座の右に落ちた。すなわち金屏風に煙が近づいて雲の形となった。
一、太田但馬を御成敗のこと。五月十四日の朝である。御城鶴の丸にて横山山城守に仰せ付けられた。但馬が爪の垢を取っているところを、山城が上意として但馬の頭の左の方を初太刀に切った。但馬の太刀は山城の着物、鼻紙をかけて切ったが身には中らなかった。勝尾半左衛門は内にこの事を知っていたため戸の外にあった。但馬が山城を切ろうとして伸びた時、横合いより声を上げて胴を切る。但馬より向きなぐる太刀が半左衛門を払い、切先が右の腕の骨を立てて切る。山城と半左衛門が続けて切り、三太刀目に首より歯まで切り、切り止まる。利長様がお出になされ、幸五郎、二郎を急がせ、雅楽助の刀にて三太刀遊ばされたという。半左衛門を利長様と心得た［文字不明］

Regarding the mission to Etchū: When Sassa Kuranoske launched an attack on our territory from Obaraguchi, there was fighting at Obara involving Uesaka Matahyōe and others, and after Kuranoske withdrew, castles were built at Matsune, Renma and other places within Etchū with garrison troops stationed there. Since Kuranoske's main castle was at Toyama, he himself advanced to Kifune castle. From our side as well, a siege castle was constructed at a place called Asahi, with Murai Bungo, Katayama Iga, Okajima Bitchū and others stationed there. However, our forces made a flanking attack and burned down Renma, with Bungo and Katayama Karei achieving military distinction. As a result, both sides withdrew.
1. Regarding lightning striking the keep of Kanazawa castle: On the night of the last day of the tenth month, three years after the Battle of Sekigahara, lightning struck the keep and caused a fire. Lady Gyokusen'in accompanied [the lord] outside the castle, whereupon the gunpowder in the keep caught fire, and beams, girders, pillars and everything else were blown away, with one piece of wood striking the honorable forehead.
1. Regarding the lightning screen: When Lord Toshinaga was seated near the water supply of Kanazawa castle, lightning struck to the right of his seat. The smoke approached the gold folding screen and took the form of clouds.
1. Regarding the punishment of Ōta Tajima: This occurred on the morning of the fourteenth day of the fifth month. At Tsuru-no-maru of the castle, it was ordered to Yokoyama Yamashiro-no-kami. While Tajima was cleaning his fingernails, Yamashiro, claiming it was by higher order, struck Tajima's head on the left side with his first sword stroke. Tajima's sword cut through Yamashiro's clothing and tissue paper but did not hit his body. Katsuo Hanzaemon, knowing of this matter, was outside the door. When Tajima extended to cut Yamashiro, [Hanzaemon] raised his voice from the side and cut his torso. Tajima's sideways-swinging sword swept at Hanzaemon, with the point cutting through the bone of his right arm. Yamashiro and Hanzaemon continued cutting, and with the third stroke cut from neck to teeth, then stopped. Lord Toshinaga came out and had Kōgorō and Jirō hurry, and it is said he made three strokes with Gagaku-suke's sword. [Someone] mistook Hanzaemon for Lord Toshinaga [text unclear].
