 右支配有之免面々ハ末々迄申渡候様     六月廿日     右被仰出候趣ニ付着服等之儀諸向ゟ問合有之節左之通相答筈 一綿服相用可申事   但下着之分ハ不苦上下古キ横麻ハ不苦候ヘ共晒麻布其外麁末之品相用可    申事 袴ハ古キ川越平横麻等不苦候へ共夏冬共麁末之品相用可申事 一帷子晒麻八講【八講布=苧麻布】  但拝領之内古キ品不苦縮等之儀も古キハ不苦袴ハ拝領たり共地合宜品無用之事 一婦人之儀も木綿相用可申是迄用来候紬之儀ハ不苦下着も古キ品ハ不苦候へ共諸  事綿服ニ准シ麁衣心得可有之事 一隠居医師是迄相用候絽類不苦専麁抹之品相用可申事 一祝事之参会たり共一汁一菜酒三返 一音信贈答之儀相弛ミ不申様前々之通相守可申事       〆        御目見以下之者着服左之通 一綿入袷裏表共木綿可相用事  但下着ハ是迄之通麁末之品ハ不苦 一羽織裏表共木綿可相用事  但御坊主共羽織之儀ハ是迄之通 一袴小倉縞之類木綿暑寒平等夏冬共可相用事  但裏付之儀無用之事 一帷子布八講可相用事  但下帷子無用之事 一単物木綿可相用事 一上下布木綿可相用事  但御家中ニ而貰候絹平ハ不苦 一帯紬太織之類ハ不苦事       妻子の衣服 一綿入袷裏表共木綿可相用事  但下着ハ是迄之通麁末之品ハ不苦 一帷子布八講可相用事

現代語訳

右の支配のある免許を持つ面々は末々まで申し渡すよう     六月二十日     右に仰せ出された趣旨について、着服等の儀につき諸向から問い合わせがある節は左の通り相答える筈 一、綿服を相用いるべき事   但し下着の分は差し支えない。上下古い横麻は差し支えないが、晒麻布その外粗末な品を相用いるべき事。袴は古い川越平・横麻等は差し支えないが、夏冬共に粗末な品を相用いるべき事 一、帷子は晒麻・八講【八講布=苧麻布】  但し拝領の内、古い品は差し支えない。縮等の儀も古いものは差し支えない。袴は拝領であっても地合いの良い品は無用の事 一、婦人の儀も木綿を相用いるべき。これまで用いてきた紬の儀は差し支えない。下着も古い品は差し支えないが、諸事綿服に准じ粗衣の心得があるべき事 一、隠居・医師はこれまで相用いた絽類は差し支えない。専ら粗末な品を相用いるべき事 一、祝事の参会であっても一汁一菜、酒三返 一、音信贈答の儀、相弛み申さないよう前々の通り相守るべき事       〆        御目見以下の者の着服は左の通り 一、綿入・袷は裏表共に木綿を相用いる事  但し下着はこれまでの通り、粗末な品は差し支えない 一、羽織は裏表共に木綿を相用いる事  但し御坊主共の羽織の儀はこれまでの通り 一、袴は小倉縞の類、木綿で暑寒平等、夏冬共に相用いる事  但し裏付の儀は無用の事 一、帷子は布・八講を相用いる事  但し下帷子は無用の事 一、単物は木綿を相用いる事 一、上下は布・木綿を相用いる事  但し御家中にて貰った絹平は差し支えない 一、帯は紬・太織の類は差し支えない事       妻子の衣服 一、綿入・袷は裏表共に木綿を相用いる事  但し下着はこれまでの通り、粗末な品は差し支えない 一、帷子は布・八講を相用いる事

Those with jurisdiction over the above exemptions should convey this to all subordinates     June 20th     Regarding the above proclamations, when there are inquiries from various quarters concerning clothing matters, responses should be given as follows: 1. Cotton clothing should be used   However, undergarments are acceptable. Old horizontal hemp for upper and lower garments is acceptable, but bleached hemp cloth and other coarse items should be used. For hakama, old Kawagoe-hira and horizontal hemp are acceptable, but coarse items should be used for both summer and winter 1. For katabira, bleached hemp and hakkō [hakkō cloth = ramie cloth] should be used  However, among bestowed items, old pieces are acceptable. Regarding chirimen and such, old ones are acceptable. For hakama, even if bestowed, fine-textured items are prohibited 1. For women, cotton should also be used. Regarding tsumugi that has been used until now, it is acceptable. Old undergarments are also acceptable, but in all matters, following the example of cotton clothing, coarse clothing should be kept in mind 1. For retired persons and physicians, the gauze fabrics (ro) used until now are acceptable. Primarily coarse items should be used 1. Even for celebratory gatherings, one soup and one dish, sake three rounds 1. Regarding gifts and exchanges, the previous practices should be maintained without becoming lax       〆        Clothing for those below direct audience rank is as follows: 1. For padded and lined garments, cotton should be used for both lining and outer fabric  However, for undergarments, as before, coarse items are acceptable 1. For haori, cotton should be used for both lining and outer fabric  However, for monks' haori, as before 1. For hakama, types like Kokura stripes, cotton for both hot and cold equally, should be used for both summer and winter  However, lining is prohibited 1. For katabira, cloth and hakkō should be used  However, under-katabira are prohibited 1. For unlined garments, cotton should be used 1. For formal wear (kamishimo), cloth and cotton should be used  However, silk-plain fabric received from the domain is acceptable 1. For sashes, tsumugi and thick weaves are acceptable       Clothing for wives and children 1. For padded and lined garments, cotton should be used for both lining and outer fabric  However, for undergarments, as before, coarse items are acceptable 1.
