きのふよりはゝうへあまりになけかせ給ふほとに大
わう御はらをたてけさよりはいしのからひつに
いれてをきまいらせしほとに此世にてのたいめん
はゆめ〳〵かなふましと申ほとにはやまないた【まな板】に
あかり給ふなさけなくはうちやう【包丁】して大わうに
まいらせける大わう八ツの口にをし入てあちはひ
ての給ふやうこの十六年かあひたやしなひそた
てしいはれにやたゝの人よりもうまきそとて
ゑみをふくみ給ふはゝこの事をきゝたまのやう
なるひめ君を二人まてうしなひてかくて有ても
なにかはせんとてなきかなしみ給へともかきりなき

いのちなれは心にまかせすたゝなけくはかり也さた
ひらははやくむまのとき【午の時】にも成けれはやくそく
のことくにたらひに水をいれて御らんすれはみつ
はくれなゐのことく也みやのなき給ふ御こゑもたし
かにきこえし中将はきもたましひもうせはて
ててんにあをきちにふし給へともそのかひそな
かりけるやう〳〵心をとりなをしてなみたをな
かしこの程の事ともたゝいまのみやの事とも
を人にかたりたまひていまはたゝ一えにとふら
ひよりほかの事はなし一日きやう二日きやう五ふ

「昨日から母上があまりにも嘆き悲しんでいらっしゃるほどに、大王は御立腹になり、今朝からは石の唐櫃に入れて置き申し上げているほどなので、この世での対面は決して叶うまい」と申したところ、早速まな板の上に上げ申し上げ、情け容赦なく包丁して大王に差し上げた。大王は八つに切り分けた肉を口に押し入れて、味わっておっしゃるには「この十六年間愛し育て上げた甲斐があって、ただの人よりも美味であるぞ」と言って微笑みを浮かべなさった。母はこの事を聞き、玉のような美しい姫君を二人まで失って、このように生きていても何になろうかと泣き悲しみなさったけれども、限りない

命なので思うようにならず、ただ嘆くばかりである。さて、平は早くも午の時刻にもなったので、約束の通りに盥に水を入れて御覧になると、水は紅のように赤い。宮の泣き叫ぶお声もはっきりと聞こえた。中将は肝魂も失せ果てて、天に向かって青き地に伏しなさったけれども、その甲斐もなかった。ようやく心を取り直して涙を流し、この間の出来事やただ今の宮の事どもを人に語りなさって、今はただひたすら弔いよりほかのことはない。一日経、二日経、五部の大乗経、千僧供養まで申し上げさせなさった。
