るとき中将御かとへ申させ給ふやうふしきの事
にてなけくも身にあまりて候へは御いとまを
給り候てしゆつけ【出家】せんとそ申されける御かとこの
よしきこしめし此さたひらをうしなひていか斗【ばかり】
なけきつるにたゝいまかへりまいる事なのめなく
おもひけるにしゆつけせんとのいとまこそ中〳〵

このようにして様々な御弔いの数を尽くしなさった。七日目にあたる時、中将は御門へ申し上げなさったのは「不思議なことで、嘆きも身に余っておりますので、お暇をいただいて出家をしたいと思います」と申し上げた。御門はこの由をお聞きになり「この定平を失ってどれほど嘆いたことであろうに、ただ今帰参したことを並々ならず嬉しく思っていたところに、出家をしたいとの暇乞いとは、かえって思いもよらないことである」とおっしゃった。

In this manner, he exhaustively performed various memorial services for her. On the seventh day, the Middle Captain petitioned His Majesty, saying: "Due to these mysterious events, my grief has become more than I can bear, so I wish to receive your permission to retire from court and become a Buddhist monk." His Majesty, hearing this request, said: "Having lost this Sadahira, how deeply I grieved! Just when I was extraordinarily pleased by your return to court, this request for leave to become a monk is quite beyond my expectations."
