【Right page】 Even now, tremors continue intermittently. Although I will be able to report the details later, I hereby submit this preliminary report. The above. March 26th [Signature] Second Report Regarding the great earthquake at my domain in Shinshū Matsushiro on the night of the 24th of last month, which I first reported on the 26th: Since then, continuous earthquakes and rumblings have not ceased day or night. The earthquake on the 29th was particularly strong, causing even more extensive damage. Initially, Mount Kokūzō in Yamahirabayashi Village, Sarashina District, along the Sai River mountain area, collapsed. The three village groups at the foot of the mountain, along with earth, sand, and rocks, were all buried over ten chō into the riverbed. The accumulated floodwater has increased the water level by sixteen to seventeen jō above normal. 【Left page】 However, if the water increases by another two to three jō, it will be impossible for it to flow away. Consequently, the upstream villages have either collapsed or been destroyed by fire and are now submerged several jō deep, sinking to the bottom. Not only have cultivated lands and homes been swept away instantly, but the situation appears to be developing into tidal conditions. The people lament day and night, so we have dispatched local officials to patrol and provide relief, but they cannot achieve stable settlement. This is truly lamentable. Downstream as well, there are two locations where riverbanks have collapsed and been buried. Moreover, in the Ichinosegumi area of Ikarashato Village in Minochi District, a mountain collapsed and buried the valley stream called Dojiri River. Here too, floodwater has accumulated, and it is difficult to calculate the extent to which this village area may be submerged. Furthermore, the heights and depths of the Sai River's riverbed and embankments have become completely disrupted, and since the water still does not flow properly, Kawanakajima...
