現代語訳
天慶元年四月十五日壬辰、地が大震し、京中の墻垣は
ことごとく破壊された。内膳司では建物が顛倒し、圧死者が四人出た。陰陽寮が占って申し上げるには、
東西に乱事があるという。
二十二日丁酉、賀茂祭を停止した。内膳司で人が死んで穢れがあったことによる。二十
九日丙午、昼に動音があり度々止まなかった。去る十五日から
今日まで十五日間、地震が休むことがなかった。
五月二十二日戊辰、天慶元年に改元した。厄運による地震と
革命を慎むためである。二十六日壬申、地震があった。六月三日
戊寅、地が大震した。
十月九日、宇佐八幡宮に奉幣して地震の災いの消除を祈った。
また香権大宮司に爵位を賜った。二十一日庚午、地が頻繁に震動した。

変・地震・兵革・疫癘・年穀について祈り申すよう、祭主大中臣
頼基に召し仰せになった。

Tengyō 1st year, 4th month, 15th day (mizunoe-tatsu): The earth shook violently, and all walls and fences
in the capital were destroyed. At the Bureau of Palace Kitchens, buildings collapsed and four people were crushed to death. The Bureau of Onmyō divined and reported
that there would be disturbances in the east and west.
22nd day (hinoto-tori): The Kamo Festival was suspended due to the defilement caused by deaths at the Bureau of Palace Kitchens.
29th day (hinoe-uma): During the day there were rumbling sounds that continued repeatedly without stopping. From the 15th day until
today, earthquakes continued without rest for fifteen days.
5th month, 22nd day (tsuchinoe-tatsu): The era name was changed to Tengyō 1st year. This was done as a precaution against calamitous fortune, earthquakes, and
dynastic change. 26th day (mizunoe-saru): There was an earthquake. 6th month, 3rd day
(tsuchinoe-tora): The earth shook violently.
10th month, 9th day: Imperial offerings were made to Usa Hachiman Shrine to pray for the elimination of earthquake disasters.
Also, court rank was bestowed upon the Deputy Grand Shrine Administrator. 21st day (kanoe-uma): The earth shook frequently.

Tenryaku 3rd year, 1st month, 26th day: [The Emperor] commanded the Chief Ritualist Ōnakatomi no Yorimoto to seclude himself at the Jingikan (Department of Shinto Affairs) and pray concerning
heavenly anomalies, earthquakes, military conflicts, epidemics, and annual harvests.
