○村上御記 応和四年七月十日令延光朝臣
仰左大臣云可令作改年号詔書其事趣朕以
不徳又臨天下而今歳天変地震灾変相頻施
徳政改年号以攘灾弥即可載大赦天下《割書：中略｜》

現代語訳
天徳二年九月十一日戊午、伊勢例幣が行われた。
天皇が八省院に行幸され、宣命において天変・地震・物怪等の
事について特別に言及された。
応和四年 康保元年となる
○村上御記 応和四年七月十日、延光朝臣に命じて
左大臣に仰せて言われるには、改年号の詔書を作らせるべきである。その事の趣旨は、朕は
徳がないのに天下を治めているが、今年は天変・地震・災変が相次いで頻発している。
徳政を施し年号を改めて災いを払い除き、すぐに大赦天下を載せるべきである《割書：中略》。
また数術家が申すには、詩の説によれば今年は革令に当たるという《割書：中略》。今は
ただ略して事を挙げるべきものである。

赦令があり、調庸を免じ、考人に穀を賜った。
英語訳
Tentoku 2nd year, 9th month, 11th day (tsuchinoe-uma): The regular offerings to Ise were made.
The Emperor visited the Hasshō-in and in his imperial edict made special mention of
heavenly anomalies, earthquakes, supernatural phenomena, and other such matters.
Ōwa 4th year - became Kōhō 1st year (964 CE)
○Record of Emperor Murakami: Ōwa 4th year, 7th month, 10th day, [the Emperor] commanded Minister Nobumitsu to
convey to the Left Minister: "An edict for changing the era name should be prepared. The purport of this matter is that although I
lack virtue yet rule the realm, this year heavenly anomalies, earthquakes, and disasters have occurred in frequent succession.
Benevolent government should be implemented and the era name changed to dispel calamities, and a great amnesty throughout the realm should immediately be proclaimed" 《Note: middle portion omitted》.
Also, numerologists report that according to the theory of the Classic of Poetry, this year corresponds to a time of dynastic change《Note: middle portion omitted》. Now
only the essential matters should be briefly enumerated.

Kōhō
Tenroku 4th year - became Ten'en 1st year (973 CE)
○Nihon Kiryaku - Emperor En'yū
Ten'en 1st year, 8th month, 27th day, during the hour of the Dragon (7-9 AM): The earth shook violently.
12th month, 20th day: Today the era was changed to Ten'en due to heavenly anomalies and earthquakes.
There was an amnesty decree, taxes and corvée labor were remitted, and grain was bestowed upon officials.
