天延（貞元元）四年丙子六月十八日申時有大地震内
裏築垣頽天下舎屋京洛築垣皆以頽落主上
為遷幸堀河 太政（兼通公）大臣家立数百工部令修理
間四面築垣忽倒打殺工卅余人堀出十八人
又御読経請僧童子等被圧殺祟福寺法華寺
南方頽入谷時守堂僧千聖同入谷死鐘堂顛
倒弥勒堂上岸崩落居堂上一大石落打損乾

天延（貞元元）四年丙子六月十八日申の時に大地震があった。内
裏の築垣が頽れ、天下の舎屋、京洛の築垣は皆頽落した。主上
は堀河の太政（兼通公）大臣家に遷幸された。数百人の工部令が修理の
間、四面の築垣が忽然と倒れ、工匠三十余人を打ち殺し、十八人を堀り出した。
また御読経の請僧、童子等が圧殺された。祟福寺、法華寺の
南方が頽れて谷に入った。その時守堂僧千聖も同じく谷に入って死んだ。鐘堂が顛
倒し、弥勒堂の上岸が崩落し、居堂の上の一つの大石が落ちて乾の
角を打ち損なった《中略》
その後一両日間、頻繁に震動して止まなかった。

○Fusō Ryakki - Emperor En'yū
Ten'en (Jōgen 1st) 4th year, hinoe-ne, 6th month, 18th day, during the hour of the Monkey: There was a great earthquake. The
earthen walls of the imperial palace collapsed, and the buildings throughout the realm and the earthen walls of the capital all collapsed. The Emperor
moved to the residence of the Chancellor (Minister Kanemichi). While several hundred craftsmen from the Ministry of Public Works were conducting repairs,
the earthen walls on all four sides suddenly collapsed, killing over thirty craftsmen and eighteen people were dug out.
Also, monks invited for sutra recitation, child attendants and others were crushed to death. The southern parts of Sōfuku-ji and Hokke-ji
temples collapsed into the valley. At that time, the temple-guarding monk Sensho also fell into the valley and died. The bell tower collapsed,
the upper bank of Miroku-dō collapsed, and a large stone on top of the residential hall fell and damaged the northwest

After that, for one or two days, frequent tremors continued without stopping.
