寛治五年八月七日癸亥申の刻に大地震があり、法成
寺の五大堂で軍荼利《割書：丈｜六》が震動で倒れ、九重塔は流星のように震
え傾き、金堂の中尊の宝幢や瓔珞が切れ落ちた。堂中尊薬師堂の七
仏、光円堂の宝形、常行堂の壁並びに裳層等は皆震動で損傷した。
また大和国金峰山の金剛蔵王宝殿も皆地震によって破
損した。古今未聞のことであるという。

Kanji 5th year, 8th month, 7th day, mizunoto-i, at the hour of the Monkey, there was a great earthquake. At Hōjōji Temple's Five Great Halls, the Gundari statue 《marginal note: height｜six [shaku]》was toppled by the tremor, the nine-story pagoda swayed and tilted like a shooting star, and the jeweled banners and necklaces of the central Buddha in the Golden Hall broke and fell. The seven Buddhas of the hall's central Yakushi Hall, the treasure-shaped roof of Kōen Hall, and the walls and decorative layers of Jōgyō Hall were all damaged by the earthquake.
Also, the treasure halls of Kongō Zaō at Mount Kinpu in Yamato Province were all destroyed by the earthquake. It is said this was unprecedented in ancient and modern times.
