文永五年
○吉続記 文永五年五月四日参内、辰の刻に大地震があった。権天文博士泰盛が内々に召しに依って参仕した。頭中将が奉行として云々、相具して行き、便宜所において地震の御占いの趣旨について尋ねられた。頭中将が仰せを奉じて尋ねたところ、その趣旨は凶である。特に公家は御慎みをし、諸々の凶事が競い起こるであろうとの由が見えるとのことであった。内々に御祈り、御祭があるべきで、何が宜しいかとの由を尋ねられた。天胄地府祭が宜しいであろうとの由を申し上げた。予が沙汰を申し上げるべきとの由の仰せがあり、即座に泰盛朝臣と問答し、日取りを択び申すべきとの由を仰せになった。明後日六日が宜しいであろうとの由を申し上げた。支度を進めるべきとの由を仰せになった。《中略》
大地震の御慎みについて、田見、占文、特に丹誠を抽んずべきとの由を定済僧正に仰せ定められた。
謹んで按ずるに、この時他事に依って禁中において御修法があり、定済僧正がこれを修した。

○Hyakurenshō, Emperor Go-Saga
Kangen 3rd year, 5th month, 26th day, Kanoe-saru, at the hour of the Snake, there was a notable earthquake. 7th month, 27th day, Tsuchinoe-uma, tonight at the hour of the Ox, there was a great earthquake.
Kangen 4th year
○Hyakurenshō, Emperor Go-Saga: Kangen 4th year, 12th month, 5th day, Kanoe-tora, there was a great earthquake.
Bunei 5th year
○Yoshitsugiki: Bunei 5th year, 5th month, 4th day, palace visit. At the hour of the Dragon, there was a great earthquake. Acting Astronomer-Doctor Taishō was summoned privately and came to serve. The Head Middle Captain served as administrator. They went together to the appropriate place where inquiries were made about the earthquake divination. When the Head Middle Captain respectfully inquired as ordered, the divination was inauspicious. It indicated that especially the court nobles should exercise caution, as various calamitous events would compete to arise. When asked what prayers and rituals should be conducted privately, it was reported that the Tenchū-Chifu ritual would be appropriate. There was an imperial command that I should arrange this matter. Immediately conferring with Court Noble Taishō, it was ordered that an auspicious date should be selected. It was reported that the day after tomorrow, the 6th, would be suitable. Regarding precautions for the great earthquake, field observations, and divination texts, it was ordered and determined to Monk Jōsai that particular sincerity should be devoted to this.
