文禄五年 慶長元年と改元
○梵舜記 文禄五年閏七月十二日大地震、子の刻に動き、数万人が死亡した。京中の寺々や所々が崩れ倒れた。第一に伏見城下以下が顛倒し終わった。大仏の築地、本尊が裂け破れ終わった。北野の経堂、東寺の金堂以下が倒れたということである。
十三日、内府家康が見舞いのために予（私）が伏見へ参り越えた。道中の町屋はことごとく破れ倒れ終わった。道中でも数度地震が動いた。
十四日、地震が五、六度、夜も五、六度動いた。
二十九日まで連々と地震があった。
十七日、清水寺の外廊が地震のために顛倒し終わった。
寛文二年
○皇年代記 首書 寛文二年五月一日巳の刻に大地震があり、音がした。築地や土蔵が顛倒し、昼夜動揺が休まなかった。今日以後数日に及び、その余震は一年を超えた。

主上が暫く御仮殿に《大地震により》、五社《伊勢・石清水・賀茂・春日・日吉》
並びに延暦寺《薬師法》、東寺《不動御修法》等で御祈りがあった。
五月七日、大樹（将軍）が大沢兵部太輔に命じて上京させ、同十六日に京都に着き、十八日に参内して御気色を伺った。

Bunroku 5th year - changed to Keichō 1st year
○ Bonshun-ki: Bunroku 5th year, intercalary 7th month, 12th day, great earthquake. It struck at the hour of the rat, and tens of thousands died. Temples and various places throughout Kyoto collapsed and fell. First of all, Fushimi castle town and below completely toppled over. The earthen walls of the Great Buddha [statue], the main image cracked and broke completely. The sutra hall of Kitano, the golden hall of Tōji and below collapsed.
13th day: Lord Naifu Ieyasu went to Fushimi to offer condolences. All the townhouses along the route had broken down and collapsed. Even along the route, earthquakes struck several times.
14th day: Earthquakes occurred five or six times, and five or six times at night as well.
Until the 29th day, earthquakes continued one after another.
17th day: The outer corridor of Kiyomizu [Temple] collapsed due to the earthquake.
Kanbun 2nd year
○ Kōnendai-ki, opening passage: Kanbun 2nd year, 5th month, 1st day, at the hour of the snake, there was a great earthquake with sound. Earthen walls and storehouses toppled over, and the shaking continued day and night without rest. From today onwards it continued for several days, and the aftershocks lasted over a year.

His Majesty temporarily [moved to] the temporary palace {{due to the great earthquake}}. At the five shrines {{Ise, Iwashimizu, Kamo, Kasuga, Hiyoshi}} and at Enryakuji Temple {{Yakushi ritual}} and Tōji Temple {{Fudō ritual}} and others, there were imperial prayers.
5th month, 7th day: The Great Tree (Shogun) ordered Ōsawa Hyōbu-tayū to go up to the capital. On the 16th of the same month he arrived in Kyoto, and on the 18th he entered the palace to inquire about His Majesty's condition.
