三月十三日 東国の地震により、改元して宝永元年とした。

近頃京都の砂地で大きな地震があり、数日経っても山東の瀧庵主人の袖小記が来て、私に題言を請うた。その記録を見ると、今古の評説を総じて挙げている。そこで仁和年間の徴証を写して題言に代え、聊かその責を寒（塞）ぐと云うことである。

2nd month, 8th day: Kantō envoy Yokose Suruga-no-kami made an official visit. This was for the ceremonial thanks for prayers offered at the Naishi-dokoro due to the Kantō earthquake.
3rd month, 13th day: The era name was changed to Hōei 1st year due to the earthquake in the eastern provinces.

Recently there was a great earthquake in the sandy areas of Kyoto, and after several days, a brief record came from the master of Ryūan in Santō, requesting that I write a preface. Looking at that record, it comprehensively presents evaluations both ancient and modern. Therefore, I copied evidence from the Nin'na era to serve as a preface, saying this would somewhat fulfill that responsibility.
