【Right page】 alone, and to the south, with Gohei-gawa village as the boundary, the villages were completely submerged in the swirling waters. Komori village was swept away, Majima village was also swept away, and the water that rushed into the Chikuma River rose to Terao and reached Matsushiro. However, because the high embankment built in previous years diverted the water, it did not enter Matsushiro. From Kijimadaira in Takai County east of the river, through Minochi County to the west, extending to Niigata in Echigo Province, approximately sixty ri were swept away. Since the special exhibition of the Zenkoji Nyorai had been taking place since March 10th in Minochi County, pilgrims of all ages from various provinces had gathered in crowds. The 24th was the peak day, so the temple grounds and city were illuminated by countless lanterns like daylight even into the night. At the hour of the boar, suddenly a great earthquake thundered like great thunder, temples and commercial buildings collapsed, and it became pitch dark. Soon fires broke out in several places, becoming a great conflagration, with crying 【Left page】 and screaming voices from every house echoing through heaven and earth. Even those who escaped safely, wanting to save their parents, wives, children, and siblings, had no one to fight the fires. Even those who rarely escaped to the fields were simply in a daze. Relatives rushed from nearby villages, and when voices were heard under collapsed houses, they dug them out and helped each other try to prevent the fire, but it was beyond human strength. Residual smoke filled all directions, the driving wind was fierce and dangerous. However, fortunately the main hall was safe. All the various halls within the Honganji temple grounds burned down completely, and among the twenty-one temples of the clergy, fifteen clerical quarters and fifteen married priests' quarters all burned down without exception. The Niomon gate, shops in front of the main hall, tea houses, mat-covered stalls, and sideshow booths stretching over three chō burned down. The head priest Daikanjin was about to collapse. The sutra repository, bell tower, and Manzen Hall were safe. Regarding the burned town houses, in upper Daimon-cho
