やすみしし わが大君の 高敷かす 秋津島根に 国はしも 多くあれども 流れ流れに 累々として すえも濁らぬ 水上にあれば 高山の 清き瀬音のみ 常磐に 枕に巻けば 語り継ぎ 立て嗣ぐにも 山国は 地震は激しと 国土の 崩るる事は 無きものと 思ひ気つかず 宿ぬる 春の夜の 梅も桜も 散り敷ける 春過ぎ下の 四日の夜の 月待ちわたる 宵のほどに 国内ことごとく 鳴りとよみ その時刻に 鳴る音は 魄の八種の 霹靂の 落ちかかる如く 益々 人の胸にも 応ふ 時しくに 激しく来る 地震に 掻き乱ふ 湯津

Our sovereign lord who rules in peace over the many lands of the Akitsu island nation—though there are many countries, flowing continuously like accumulated layers, with waters that remain unclouded at their source, where only the clear sounds of mountain streams echo eternally, where one rests one's head, passing down stories through generations—in this mountain country, though earthquakes are said to be severe, we thought that the collapse of the land would never happen, and without concern, we slept through spring nights when plum blossoms and cherry blossoms scattered everywhere. After spring had passed, on the night of the fourth day, while waiting for the moon to rise in the evening, the entire country resounded with rumbling. At that very moment, the sound that rang out was like the eight types of thunderbolts from the spirit world crashing down, increasingly affecting people's hearts as well. At that critical time, the violent earthquake that came, disturbing the hot springs...
