An official notification was issued through written document:
Regarding Echizen-no-kami: He always held the shogunate's affairs as most important, and though he was in the prime of his years when he passed away, His Lordship deeply grieves his loss. Concerning the succession matter, the petition submitted is deemed most reasonable. Therefore, Hyōbu-no-taifu shall be appointed without alteration.
However, regarding the matter that Echizen-no-kami had no biological son, this was made known to all during his illness in previous years. It was heard that privately, he intended to make Hyōbu-no-taifu his adopted heir, and that Hyōbu-no-taifu understood this, and perhaps because Gonzō also existed, he intended to decline with sworn refusal. This matter concerns the duty toward Echizen-no-kami. As this is appointed by the shogunate for governance purposes, it is an exceptional matter, and Hyōbu-no-taifu and all clan members should understand this meaning - such is the Shogun's will.
