御白書院御老中列座兵部太夫存知も有之旨ニ而強而願之段
被 聞召届未年若ニも候得共病者ニも有之間願之通被
仰付家督無相違越前守江被 仰出候併大国之儀越前守
若年ニも候間国之仕置等諸事無遠慮差図可仕旨
上意之段御大老酒井雅樂頭《割書：忠｜清》殿御達有之
昌親様御請ニ者重畳御懇之 上意難有仕合奉存候私儀
不調法者之儀候得共譜代之家老家来共も有之候間万事
相談仕 御威光を以国静成様ニ随分仕置等申付越前守
御奉公可為仕旨被 仰上相済 御退出

一、七月十九日、御使者をもって例の通り御国産の初鱈（三匹）を献上した。
一、同月二十日、渡辺大隅守綱貞殿、阿部四郎五郎正之殿がこの御屋敷へお越しになり、
明日二十一日に御用の儀があるので、御父子様並びに上野介近栄様がお揃いで四時分に
御登城されるよう申し達すべき旨を御老中が仰せ渡された段をお達しになった。
一、同月二十一日、
昌親様、綱昌様並びに上野介近栄様がお揃いで御登城されたところ、
御白書院において御老中が列座し、兵部太夫（昌親）も存じ上げていることがあるという理由で、強いて願い出た段が
聞き届けられ、未だ年若くはあるが病者でもあるので、願いの通り
仰せ付けられ、家督相違なく越前守（綱昌）へ仰せ出された。併せて大国のことなので越前守は
年若くもあるので、国の仕置等、諸事遠慮なく差図すべき旨の
上意の段を御大老酒井雅楽頭忠清殿がお達しになった。
昌親様の御請けには「重畳御懇意の上意、有難い仕合わせと存じ奉ります。私は
不調法者ではございますが、譜代の家老・家来共もございますので、万事
相談いたし、御威光をもって国が静穏になるよう、随分仕置等を申し付け、越前守の
御奉公をいたすべき」旨を仰せ上げ、相済んで御退出された。
一、同月二十二日、御表から
綱昌様が御部屋へお移り替えになり、万姫様も御一緒にお移り替えになった。

1st, On the 20th of the same month, Lord Watanabe Osumi-no-kami Tsunasada and Lord Abe Shirogorou Masayuki came to this mansion and conveyed that the senior councilors had ordered that tomorrow, the 21st, there would be official business, so the father and son, together with Lord Kozuke-no-suke Chikahide, should go to the castle together around four o'clock.
1st, On the 21st of the same month,
Lord Masachika, Lord Tsunamasa, and Lord Kozuke-no-suke Chikahide went to the castle together. In the White Reception Hall, with the senior councilors in attendance, [the shogun announced that] since Hyobu-taiyu (Masachika) was aware [of his condition] and had earnestly petitioned, his request was granted. Although [Tsunamasa] was still young, since [Masachika] was also ill, as requested, [Tsunamasa] was appointed and the succession was announced to Echizen-no-kami (Tsunamasa) without question. However, since it was a large domain and Echizen-no-kami was young, [the shogun] should give guidance without hesitation regarding domain administration and all other matters. This shogunal intention was conveyed by Great Elder Sakai Gaku-no-kami Tadakiyo.
Lord Masachika's response was: "I am deeply grateful for this repeated kind consideration from His Lordship. Although I am an incompetent person, I have hereditary senior retainers and retainers, so I will consult on all matters and, with [the shogun's] authority, ensure the domain remains peaceful by properly implementing administration so that Echizen-no-kami may serve loyally." After stating this, the audience concluded and they withdrew.
