【右頁上段】
○桐（きり）は琴を作るのに使う。四月に花が咲き、白くて薄紫色である。大木があり、箱などを作るのにこの木を用いる。
○梧桐（ごとう）は皮が青く、節がない。実は胡椒のような形で皮にしわがある。花は小さくて黄色である。櫬（しん）と同じである。
○櫟（くぬぎ）は葉が柏に似ているが薄い。また栗に似ている。実を橡実（しょうじつ）といい、俗にどんぐりという。木が硬く、薪として最上である。

○槲（かしわ）は別名を樸樕（ほくそく）という。実を櫟橿子（れききょうし）という。俗に「かし」といい、品種が多い。木が硬くて棒を作るのに使う。

○Paulownia (kiri) is used to make koto (Japanese zither). It blooms in April with white and light purple flowers. There are large trees, and this wood is used to make boxes and other items.
○Chinese parasol tree (gotō) has blue-green bark without nodes. The fruit is like black pepper with wrinkled skin. The flowers are small and yellow. It is the same as shin.
○Sawtooth oak (kunugi) has leaves similar to oak but thinner. It also resembles chestnut. The fruit is called shōjitsu, commonly known as donguri (acorn). The wood is hard and excellent as firewood.
