【右頁上段】
柯（カ）と同じで、細い枝を條（ジョウ）という。枝分かれした樹木の股を椏（ア）という。
○梢（ショウ）は木の梢（コズエ）である。杪（ショウ）と同じ。
○炭（タン）は荒炭である。烏銀（ウギン）ともいう。桴炭（フタン）は消し炭である。
○杮（シ）はこけら（木片）である。榾柮（コツトツ）は木の端材、鋸末（キョマツ）はおが屑である。

○牡丹（ボタン）は深見草（フカミグサ）とも二十日草（ハツカグサ）ともいう。花の王とする。紫色の花が多い。紅白もあり、紅色を上品とする。最も花の中で富貴なものであるとして古人も賞賛した。別名を花王（カオウ）、また木芍薬（モクシャクヤク）という。牡丹皮（ボタンピ）として薬に用いる。

○Tan refers to rough charcoal. Also called ugin (crow silver). Futan is extinguished charcoal.

○Peony (botan) is also called fukamigusa or hatsukagusa. It is regarded as the king of flowers. Purple flowers are common. There are also red and white varieties, with red considered the finest grade. It is considered the most magnificent of flowers, praised by ancient people as well. Also called kaō (flower king) or mokushakuyaku (tree peony). Botan bark is used medicinally.
