【右頁上段】
○杜若（カキツバタ）は水中に生える。花は大きく、色は桔梗の花の色で美しい。夏の初めに花が咲く。
○菖蒲（アヤメ）は花が杜若に似ているが小さく、葉も細い。また菖蒲（ショウブ）というのは別種である。花はない。また花菖蒲という物も一種ある。

○様錦（モミジグサ）は六月七月に葉が紅色になる。黄緑色を交えるものを十様錦という。また雁が来て紅色になるものを雁来紅という。俗に葉鶏頭という。
○桔梗（キキョウ）は花に紫色と白色がある。一重と八重がある。六月に開く。また梗草（コウソウ）と名づける。

【Right Page, Upper Section】
○Japanese iris (kakitsubata) grows in water. The flowers are large and beautifully colored like bellflower blossoms. They bloom in early summer.
○Iris (ayame) has flowers similar to Japanese iris but smaller, with thinner leaves as well. The plant called shōbu is a different species that has no flowers. There is also a type called flowering sweet flag.

○Joseph's coat (momijigusa) has leaves that turn red in June and July. Those with yellow-green mixed in are called ten-pattern brocade. Those that turn red when wild geese arrive are called wild goose red. Commonly called leaf cockscomb.
○Bellflower (kikyō) has purple and white flowers. There are single and double varieties. They open in June. Also called stem grass (kōsō).
