【右頁上段】
○アシ（葦）は水辺に生える。いまだ穂が出ないものを芦（ろ）という。長く成長すると葦（い）という。葉は竹に似ており、花は荻のようである。
○ハチス（蓮）は花に紅色と白色がある。葉を荷（か）といい、根を藕（ぐう）といい、花を芙蓉（ふよう）といい、実を蓮菂（れんてき）という。

○ショウ（菖）は一寸に九節あるものを菖蒲と名付ける。冬至の後五十七日にして初めて生える。
○マコモ（菰）は水辺に生える。菖蒲に似ている。一名を茭草（こうそう）また蒋草（しょうそう）という。
○ガマ（蒲）は水辺に生える。筵に織ることができる。蒲槌（ほづち）、がまほこの花上の黄粉を蒲黄（ほおう）という。
○ウキクサ（萍）は水上にあって根がない。血のような色をしている。

○Reed (ashi) grows near water. Those that have not yet produced ears are called "ro." When they grow long, they are called "i." The leaves resemble bamboo, and the flowers are like miscanthus.
○Lotus (hachisu) has both red and white flowers. The leaves are called "ka," the roots are called "gū," the flowers are called "fuyō," and the seeds are called "renteki."

○Sweet flag (shō) - those with nine nodes per inch are called "shōbu" (iris). They first sprout fifty-seven days after the winter solstice.
○Wild rice (makomo) grows near water. It resembles iris. Also called "kōsō" (reed grass) or "shōsō" (sedge grass).
○Cattail (gama) grows near water. It can be woven into mats. The yellow pollen from the flower spike of the cattail club is called "hōō" (cattail pollen).
○Duckweed (ukikusa) floats on water and has no roots. It has a blood-like color.
