○剣術は太刀打ちの方法である。兵法者ともいう。武士第一の道である。流派が多数ある。神道流、柳生流、新影流、一刀流などさまざまある。しかし、未熟な技芸を頼みにして、身の危険を知らない人がしばしば多い。嘆かわしいことではないか。今の平和な御代においては、商家、職人、農民等は知らない方がよいであろう。

○囲碁は周公旦がお作りになったという。吉備大臣入唐の時の伝来という。三百六十目は年月日数である。九目星は九曜の星である。石の黒白は昼夜を表すのだという。
○将棋は周の武帝が臣下の王褒に命じて作らせた。軍法の備えを形どったものである。大将棋、中将棋がある。今もてあそぶものを小将棋というのは、もとより習わしがあるのである。

○Swordsmanship is the method of sword fighting. It is also called military strategy (heihō). It is the foremost way of the warrior. There are many schools: Shintō-ryū, Yagyū-ryū, Shinkage-ryū, Ittō-ryū, and various others. However, there are often many people who rely on immature skills and do not know the danger to their own lives. Is this not lamentable? In today's peaceful reign, it would be better for merchants, artisans, farmers, and others not to know such things.

○Go is said to have been created by the Duke of Zhou. It is said to have been transmitted when Minister Kibi entered Tang China. The 360 intersections represent the days of the year. The nine star points represent the nine luminaries. The black and white stones represent day and night.
○Shogi was created when Emperor Wu of Zhou commanded his retainer Wang Bao to make it. It was modeled after military formations. There are large shogi and medium shogi. What we play with today is called small shogi, which has been the custom from the beginning.
