○万歳楽は年の始めに縁起の良い事柄を取り揃えて祝い踊るものである。昔からある芸能だという。聖徳太子の御時代に烏帽子と装束を下賜された故事により、今でも烏帽子と素襖を着用するという。都（京都）に来るのは大和国出身の農民である。そのため「大和万歳」と呼ばれる。また中国地方へは美濃国から、東国へは三河国からも出向くという。

○Manzairaku (celebratory dance) is performed at the beginning of the year, gathering together auspicious themes for celebration and dance. It is said to be an art form that has existed since ancient times. According to tradition, during the time of Prince Shōtoku, court caps (eboshi) and costumes were bestowed upon the performers, which is why they still wear eboshi and suō (plain court robes) today. Those who come to the capital (Kyoto) are farmers from Yamato Province, hence they are called "Yamato Manzai." It is also said that performers go to the Chūgoku region from Mino Province, and to the eastern provinces from Mikawa Province.
