○皂鵰（クマタカ）は鷹の大型のものである。翼が強く、空中高く飛び回り、諸鳥はいうまでもなく獣も捕って食べる。その体長は三、四尺（約90～120センチメートル）ある。中国では大鷹というのは鷲や皂鵰を指すとされる。日本では大鷹と称するものは隼（ハヤブサ）などを指す。

○The eagle is a large type of hawk. The extremely large ones reach seven to eight shaku (approximately 2-2.4 meters). Their color is yellow with black spots on the belly. The beak is yellow. They live in deep mountains and soar through the sky, skillfully grasping and eating beasts.

○The mountain hawk-eagle (kumataka) is a large type of hawk. Its wings are strong, and it flies high in the sky, catching and eating not only various birds but also beasts. Its body length is three to four shaku (approximately 90-120 centimeters). In China, what they call "large hawk" refers to eagles and mountain hawk-eagles. In Japan, what we call "large hawk" refers to falcons and such.
