【右頁上段】
○雲雀（ひばり）は別名を蒿雀（こうじゃく）という。雀より少し大きく、茶色で斑がある。三月の始めから夏至の頃まで空に舞い上がって囀る。陽気を起こし、精髄を補う。
○雉（きじ）は雄の羽色は美しく、尾が長い。雌は茶色で斑がある。春の陽気になると鳴く。九月から十一月まで食用にすべきである。

○練雀（れんじゃく）は尾の長いものと短いものの二種類がある。大きさはヒヨドリより小さく、黒い褐色で、尾に白い毛があって練った帯のようである。
○鵐（しとど）は雀ほどの大きさで、薄青く少し斑がある。冬月にやって来る。俗にアオジという。この鳥を黒焼きにして腫れ物に付けると妙薬になる。

○The skylark (hibari) is also called kōjaku. It is slightly larger than a sparrow, brown-colored with spots. From the beginning of March until around the summer solstice, it rises into the sky and sings. It stimulates yang energy and supplements the vital essence.
○The pheasant (kiji) - the male has beautiful feather coloring and a long tail. The female is brown with spots. It calls when spring warmth arrives. It should be eaten from September to November.

○The waxwing (renjaku) has two varieties: long-tailed and short-tailed. Its size is smaller than a brown-eared bulbul, blackish-brown in color, with white feathers on the tail that look like a braided sash.
○The bunting (shitodo) is about the size of a sparrow, pale blue with slight spotting. It comes in winter months. Commonly called aoji. When this bird is charred black and applied to swellings, it becomes an excellent medicine.
