○鶉（うずら）はヒヨドリほどの大きさで、丸い形をしている。全身に細かな斑がある。赤っぽいものと黒っぽいものの二種類がある。秋の終わりになると鳴く。人はこの声を愛でて、多くを籠に入れて飼う。粟を好んで食べる。炙って食べれば五臓を補い、体の中を益するのである。

○吐綬鶏（とじゅけい）は大きさが鶏のようである。頭は雉に似ている。羽の色は黒と黄色で星模様がある。首筋に袋があって肉綬を収める。天気が良く気持ちの良い時は、この袋を伸ばして遊ぶ。
○山鵲（さんじゃく）は鵲（カササギ）のようで、色は黒く文様がある。嘴は赤く尾は長いが、遠くまで飛ぶことはできない。

【Right page, upper section】
○The quail (uzura) is about the size of a brown-eared bulbul, with a round shape. Its entire body has fine spots. There are two varieties: reddish and blackish. It calls at the end of autumn. People appreciate this voice and often keep them in cages. They prefer to eat millet. When roasted and eaten, they supplement the five organs and benefit the body's interior.

○The turkey (tojukei) is about the size of a chicken. Its head resembles a pheasant. The feather colors are black and yellow with star patterns. It has a pouch on the neck that contains a fleshy wattle. When the weather is fine and pleasant, it extends this pouch and plays.
○The mountain magpie (sanjaku) is like a magpie but with black coloring and patterns. Its beak is red and tail is long, but it cannot fly far distances.
