現代語訳
○矮鶏（ちゃぼ）は中国の江南地方に多く生息する。体が小さく、脚の長さはわずか二寸（約6cm）ほどである。
○鷽（うそ）は雀より小さく、羽の色に美しい模様がある。腹の下が白く、美しい鳥である。
○燕（つばめ）は雀ほどの大きさがある。泥を含んで家の軒に巣を作る。戊巳の日を避けるといわれている。

○鳩（はと）は総称であり、種類が多い。ここに図示するのは俗にいう数珠掛け、または八幡鳩ともいう。首の周りが黒く、数珠をかけたようである。羽の色は灰白色で美しい。人はこの鳩を捕らない。
○青鳩（やまばと）は山に住んで里には出てこない。羽の色は緑褐色である。食べると虚弱を補い、血の巡りを良くする。天子の御衣の色がこれである。

○The bantam chicken (chabo) is numerous in the Jiangnan region of China. Its body is small, with legs only about two sun (approximately 6cm) long.
○The bullfinch (uso) is smaller than a sparrow, with beautiful patterns in its feather colors. The underside of its belly is white, making it a beautiful bird.
○The swallow (tsubame) is about the size of a sparrow. It holds mud in its mouth to build nests under the eaves of houses. It is said to avoid the tsuchinoe-mi days.

○Dove (hato) is a general term with many varieties. What is illustrated here is commonly called juzukake, or also called Hachiman dove. The area around the neck is black, as if wearing a rosary. The feather color is ash-white and beautiful. People do not catch this dove.
○The green dove (yamabato) lives in the mountains and does not come out to the villages. Its feather color is green-brown. When eaten, it supplements weakness and invigorates the blood. This is the color of the emperor's robes.
