○鳲鳩（かっこう）は色が褐色で、三月の穀雨の後に初めて鳴く。食べると神経を安らかにする。またつつ鳥ともいう。これも鳩の仲間で、三月頃に鳴き声を聞いて豆をまくといわれている。
○鴿（家鳩）は堂塔に多く集まって住む鳩である。精気を整え気を益し、悪性の腫れ物を治し、薬毒を解毒する。多く食べてはならない。

○鶫（つぐみ）は鵯（ひよどり）ほどの大きさがある。羽の色は茶色で美しい。年の暮れにこれを食べる。味が良い。
○鵙（もず）は鵯より少し小さく茶色で、頭は鷹のようで、小鳥を追い、肉食である。小児の言葉が遅い時に、鵙の止まる枝で打つとよい。
○鶸（ひわ）は形は雀ほどの大きさがある。羽の色は黒く黄色い羽が混じる。春になると来る。

○The lesser cuckoo (kakkō) is brown in color and first calls after Kokuu (Grain Rain) in the third month. When eaten, it calms the spirit. It is also called tsutsu-dori. This is also a type of dove, and it is said that beans are sown upon hearing its call around the third month.
○The domestic pigeon (iebato) is a dove that gathers and lives in large numbers at temples and pagodas. It regulates vital energy, increases qi, heals malignant sores, and neutralizes medicinal toxins. One should not eat too much of it.

○The thrush (tsugumi) is about the size of a brown-eared bulbul. Its feather color is brown and beautiful. This is eaten at year's end. The taste is good.
○The shrike (mozu) is slightly smaller than the brown-eared bulbul, is brown in color with a hawk-like head, chases small birds, and is carnivorous. When a small child is slow to speak, it is good to strike with a branch where a shrike perches.
○The siskin (hiwa) has a form about the size of a sparrow. Its feather color is black mixed with yellow feathers. It comes when spring arrives.
