○画眉（ホオジロ）は畫眉鶥鳥である。形は雀ほどの大きさがある。羽の色も似ている。頬が白く黒い毛がある。
○鶖（カシドリ）は鵯より大きい。翼に青く輝く黒い星のような羽がある。秋の末から冬月にかけて来て鳴く。
○杜鵑（ホトトギス）は鵯より大きくて黄黒く、口が赤い。四五月頃の夜陰に鳴く。杜宇・子規と同じ。

○鵯（ヒヨドリ）は鸜鵒である。また哵哵鳥ともいう。身も頭も薄いねずみ色に黒い斑がある。諸木の実を食べる。秋冬に多く来る。
○鶺鴒（セキレイ）は嘴が細く尾が長い。飛ぶときは鳴き、止まっているときは尾を動かす。羽が白く背が黒いものをセグロといい、青く黄色いものをキセキレイという。

【Right page, upper section】
○The meadow bunting (hōjiro) is a painted eyebrow bird (gabi-chō). Its form is about the size of a sparrow. Its feather color is also similar. Its cheeks are white with black markings.
○The jay (kashitori) is larger than the brown-eared bulbul. It has blue-shining black star-like feathers on its wings. It comes and calls from late autumn through the winter months.
○The lesser cuckoo (hototogisu) is larger than the brown-eared bulbul, is yellowish-black in color, and has a red beak. It calls in the night during the fourth and fifth months. It is the same as the duyu and zigui.

○The brown-eared bulbul (hiyodori) is a crested myna (kuyoku). It is also called haha-chō. Both its body and head are light gray with black markings. It eats the fruits of various trees. Many come in autumn and winter.
○The wagtail (sekirei) has a thin beak and long tail. When flying it calls, and when perched it moves its tail. Those with white feathers and black backs are called seguro, and those that are blue and yellow are called kisekirei.
