現代語訳
○螭（チ）は蛟（ミツチ）に似ているが角がなく、龍に似ていて色は黄色である。
○魚虎（シャチホコ）は別名を土奴魚（トトギョ）という。海中にいて、よく潮を吹く。よって城門にこの魚を作るのは火災を避けるための心得であるといわれている。
○鯨（クジラ）は海中の大魚である。波を打って雷のような音を立て、泡を吐いて雨を降らす。雄を鯨（ゲイ）といい、雌を鯢（ゲイ）という。
