かせてはならない。一方で砂仁に塩少しを加えて煮る方法もある。
蝦蟇方（がまほう）
八月に大きな蝦蟇（ガマガエル）を捕らえ、頭・皮・内臓・足を去り清く洗い、胡麻の油に塩少しを混ぜ鍋で炒りつけ、骨を去り小児に食べさせる。およそ十四五匹も食べれば疱瘡を患わない。
稀痘方（きとうほう）
牛黄一匁、蟾蜍三分、辰砂七分、糸瓜蔕（ヘチマの蔕に近い所五寸ほど切り、黒焼きにして五匁）
右の四味を細かに粉にして、当歳の児は一分を砂糖で調えて服用すれば必ず疱瘡を免れる。
又方
辰砂（最も良質のもの一匁をすり細かにする）、麝香五厘、胡麻子（三十六粒の殻を去り、紙に包み押して油を去る）

Toad Method (Gamahō)
In the eighth month, catch a large toad, remove the head, skin, entrails, and legs, wash cleanly, mix with sesame oil and a little salt, fry in a pot, remove the bones and have the child eat it. If [the child] eats about fourteen or fifteen [toads], they will not suffer from smallpox.
Smallpox Prevention Method (Kitōhō)
Cow bezoar (1 monme), toad venom (3 bu), cinnabar (7 bu), loofah stem (cut about 5 sun from near the stem, charred black, 5 monme)
Grind these four ingredients finely into powder, and for a one-year-old child, mix 1 bu with sugar and administer - this will surely prevent smallpox.
