一御取箇ハ以前ニ減村柄ハ以前ゟ衰候此儀一体奢之風儀農業疎かニ致候故ニ候と申候とも是又世

一御代官ハ御太切之御役与申事存可申事ニハ可有之候へ共一体御収納を以御改／事（マヽ）而已御仕置向御配当
御手当万事御入用も被弁候下ニ取候而ハ下民之／衰（下）／盛（上）生死之取扱ニ預り候右之所を掌候儀者不容

是非候一体其職ニ居候而も其職事を不弁万一遊楽花奢又ハ己之富を極メ又ハ己之立身をのみ心掛其
職分を疎かニ致候者有之候ハヽ早々可被申聞候心たに用候得ハ自然与功者ニ相成候ものニ候指支多く役儀拘り
も手代等ニ打任セ其外右体不心掛候ヘハ無益之費用をなし候而当分取続難儀ニ及候ヘハ勝手向之拘りも是又
手代ニ任置候様ニ成行役儀之拘勝手之拘共任置如何与心付候而も今更不及是非因循致候而／其明（マヽ）日を送候者
可有之哉是等ハ心之用方無甲斐故之不届ニ而候役儀之預所前文之如く太切至極不容易儀与実々存候ハヽ
左様ニハ有之間敷事ニ候以御厚恩妻子扶助も出来致候者共此御時節柄ニ付候而ハ粉骨砕身
いたし御勝手向元ニ復し候様可尽労事勿論ニ候此所ニ感動いたさゝるものハ誠実の心無之故ニ候誠実
之心無之ものハ不容易御役ニハ如何与存候事 申五月四日
右之通越中守殿被仰渡候間得其意御役筋之儀格別差はまり可相勤候勿論太切之御役儀ニ候ヘハ右

行候武芸之厚薄師役之者共へ申付姓名為指出申事ニ候猶以他事ニ心を不
用忠孝之道を相守専武芸学文致出精候様ニと存ル事ニ候
一前々ゟ申付置候通倹約を相守無益之物入別而奢かましき事決而無之様ニ存ル
事ニ候然処近来分限不相応ニ身之廻りを飾申事心得違之族も相聞候万事倹
約を用栄耀奢之筋無之麁服を着し奉公相勤候事第一之事ニ候江戸門外
之儀ハ格別於国元ハ人々相成へきたけハ国元ニ而出来候品を致着用他国ゟ出候
品者随分不相用候様其外何ニ而も国元ニ而出来候品を専相用候様相心掛可申
事ニ候惣而衣服ニ不限諸道具等有合候見分見苦敷ハ無構可相用候見分ニ拘り
新規ニいたし候儀ハ可為無用候居宅之儀も手入等宜敷持成候儀ハ随分尤ニ候乍去
聊も物数奇かましき事ハ可為無用事勿論家内之者衣服等之儀も随分麁服
相用心得違無之様可致事
一家督婚姻振廻是迄申聞置候通随分軽可致事其余之祝儀等も右ニ准し
現代語訳
一、御収穫は以前に比べて減少し、村の様子は以前より衰退しています。この件は一体に奢侈の風潮で農業を疎かにしているためだと言っても、これもまた世話が行き届かないことによるものでしょう。
一、御代官は非常に重要な御役職だということは存じているはずですが、一体に御収納をもって御改革の事ばかりでなく、御仕置向け、御配当、御手当、万事の御入用も弁えている下にあっては、下民の衰退・繁栄・生死の取り扱いに関わっています。右の所を掌る儀は容易ではありません。容易でないのであれば、心の用い方も容易なことでは行き届かないことになるでしょうし、心力を尽くしても才力が及ばないのであれば是非もありません。一体その職に就いていてもその職務を理解せず、万一遊楽・奢侈、または己の富を極めること、または己の立身ばかりを心がけて、その職分を疎かにする者がありましたら、早々に申し聞かせてください。心さえ用いれば自然と功者になるものです。支障が多く役儀の拘りも手代等に打ち任せ、その外右のような不心掛けであれば無益の費用をなして当分取り続き難儀に及べば、勝手向きの拘りもこれまた手代に任せ置くようになります。役儀の拘り、勝手の拘り共に任せ置き、如何と心づいても今更是非に及ばず、因循して其の日を送る者があるでしょうか。これ等は心の用い方が甲斐ないゆえの不届けです。役儀の預所は前文の如く非常に重要で容易ではない儀と実々存じているのであれば、そのようなことはないはずです。御厚恩をもって妻子扶助もできている者共が、この御時節柄につきましては粉骨砕身して御勝手向きを元に復するよう労を尽くすことは勿論です。この所に感動しない者は誠実の心がないためです。誠実の心がない者は容易でない御役にはいかがかと存じます。 申五月四日
右の通り越中守殿が仰せ渡されましたので、その意を得て御役筋の儀は格別に励んで勤めてください。勿論非常に重要な御役儀でありますので、右の通り仰せ渡された上で、もし右の御趣意に叶わない取り計らい方で行き届かない儀もありましたら、御役御免の儀を申し上げなければ成り立たない儀につき、かねてその段を心得ておいてください。 五月二十九日
御書付
○当家代々家中の面々の家風の儀は、かねて申し渡し置いていることでありますので、何も心得違いはないはずです。第一に武芸の儀はこれまで随分精を出してきたことでありますが、なお一層厚く心がけて申すべきことです。修行している武芸の厚薄を師役の者共へ申し付けて姓名を指し出させることにします。なお一層他事に心を用いず、忠孝の道を相守り、専ら武芸学文に精を出すようにと存じます。
一、前々から申し付け置いている通り、倹約を相守り、無益の物入り、別して奢侈がましいことは決してないようにと存じます。然るところ近来分限不相応に身の回りを飾ることを心得違いする族も相聞こえます。万事倹約を用い、栄耀奢侈の筋はなく、粗服を着して奉公相勤めることが第一のことです。江戸門外の儀は格別として、国元においては人々ができるだけ国元で出来た品を着用し、他国から出た品はできるだけ用いないよう、その外何でも国元で出来た品を専ら相用いるよう心がけてください。総じて衣服に限らず諸道具等、有り合わせで見た目が見苦しくなければ構わず相用いてください。見た目に拘って新規に作ることは無用です。居宅の儀も手入れ等をよくして持ち成すことはもっともなことです。しかしながら少しでも物数寄がましいことは無用のことです。勿論家内の者の衣服等の儀も随分粗服を相用い、心得違いのないようにしてください。
一、家督相続・婚姻・振る舞いは、これまで申し聞かせ置いた通り、できるだけ軽くすることです。その余の祝儀等も右に準じて

○Regarding the family traditions of retainers of our house through generations, these have been announced previously, so there should be no misunderstandings. First, regarding martial arts, although considerable effort has been made thus far, even greater attention should be paid. The proficiency levels of martial arts being practiced shall be reported by instructors, with names submitted. Furthermore, without paying attention to other matters, observe the way of loyalty and filial piety, and devote yourselves exclusively to martial arts and learning.
