恋川がむたい記喜三二が見たい記万象亭のいらい
記初中後の趣は一也只未来の心いきをおしはかるのみこゝに
天野邪九郎なりけるもの今の世の人の心を計り味噌
のかび古い手ではいかぬと星月夜鎌倉の鯉の新らしき
思ひつきをもてあさもよひ黄色な物を用ひずにすみ町
だちのもゝひきの大見へ人に便あらんことをかうがへたる足引
の山事に知らぬ火の大つくしに惣してあたら貯
をあらかねの土に落したる心地せし山鳥のおろかなる
物かたりを三つのみまきの桜木の雪にもくるふいぬ
の春の青とはなせり

序
恋川春町の「無駄記」、喜三二の「見たい記」、万象亭の「いらい記」などの初編・中編・後編の趣向は皆同じようなもので、ただ未来の人の心意気を推し量るだけのことである。ここに天野邪九郎という者がいて、今の世の人の心を推し量り、味噌のカビのような古い手法ではいけないと考え、星月夜の鎌倉の鯉のような新しい発想を持って、朝も夜も黄色い本を用いずに、町人風の股引の大見栄を人に便宜を図ろうと考えた。足柄山のことなど知らない九州の火のように、すべてにおいて惜しい蓄えを金の土に落としてしまったような心地がした。山鳥のような愚かな物語を三つの巻物として、桜の木が雪に狂う犬の春の青さとして話すのである。

Preface
The early, middle, and late volumes of works like Koikawa Harumachi's "Muda-ki," Kisanji's "Mitai-ki," and Bansho-tei's "Irai-ki" all share similar themes, merely attempting to gauge the spirit of future generations. Here, a man named Amano Jakuro, measuring the hearts of people in this current world, thought that old methods like moldy miso would not suffice. With fresh ideas like carp in Kamakura under a starry moonlit night, he considered morning and evening how to benefit people through the grand display of townspeople's leggings, without using yellow books. Like fires of Kyushu, unknown to matters of Mount Ashigara, he felt as though he had dropped precious savings into golden soil. He tells these foolish tales, like those of mountain birds, as three scrolls - the blue of a dog's spring, where cherry trees go mad in the snow.
