少将様同所湊御本亭江

現代語訳

一筆申し上げます。昨年十一月二日、指宿の二月田御茶屋が焼失したとのこと、思いがけないことと存じます。しかしながら、少将様が同所の湊御本亭にお移りになり、ご機嫌については何の差し障りもおありでないとのこと、承知いたしました。恐悦に存じます。

つきましては、少将様のご機嫌をお伺いするため、このように参上いたします。お時間のある折に、よろしくお取り計らいくださいますようお願い申し上げます。恐縮ながら謹んで申し上げます。

I humbly write to you. Regarding the unexpected fire that destroyed the Nigatsuida tea house in Ibusuki on the second day of the eleventh month of last year, I consider this to have been truly unforeseen. However, I have been informed that His Lordship the Shōshō has relocated to the Minato main residence in the same area, and that there are no concerns regarding his well-being. I am greatly relieved to hear this.

In connection with this matter, I am writing in this manner to inquire about His Lordship the Shōshō's well-being. I humbly request that you kindly arrange this at your convenience. With utmost respect and humility, I remain,
