新潟より御城米積請江戸え罷越夫より仙台之御米
積請候筈にて未年十一月八日相州浦川を出帆
奥州え参掛候処翌九日房州九十九里灘より
東南之方え昼夜百三十日計漂流仕候勿論地方は
一向目届に無之寒中之処日之出近く参候哉殊の外
炎気強誠船中極暑もまさり暫時も堪かたく

清蔵は十七歳の年から船乗りとして働きに出て、各地を航海し、
我が国にも度々帰ってきていました。十一年前、二十三歳の年、
大坂の備前屋義三郎の船（八百五十石積み、十一人乗り組み）で、越後の
新潟から幕府の米を積んで江戸へ向かい、その後仙台の米を
積む予定で、未年十一月八日に相模国浦川を出港し、
奥州へ向かったところ、翌九日に房州九十九里浜沖から
東南の方角へ昼夜百三十日ほど漂流いたしました。当然、陸地は
全く見えず、寒中であったのに日の出近くになったのか、異常に
暑気が強く、まさに船中は極暑を超え、一時も耐え難く

Seizo had been working as a sailor since he was seventeen years old, sailing to various places and
returning to his home country many times. Eleven years ago, when he was twenty-three years old,
he sailed on a ship belonging to Binzenya Gisaburo of Osaka (850 koku capacity, crew of eleven) from
Niigata in Echigo, carrying government rice to Edo, and then was supposed to load
rice from Sendai. On the 8th day of the 11th month of the Year of the Sheep, they departed from Urakawa in Sagami Province
heading for Oshu, but from the 9th day onward, they drifted from the waters off Kujukuri Beach in Boso Province
toward the southeast for about 130 days and nights. Naturally, no land was
visible at all, and although it was midwinter, perhaps because they approached near sunrise, the heat was extraordinarily
intense, truly exceeding extreme summer heat aboard the ship, making it unbearable even for a moment.
