官生の入学読書を代請する疏

琉球国差し戻し、翰林院検討《割書：臣》海宝、編修《割書：臣》徐葆光等、謹んで奏上いたします。奏請の件について、臣等は詔を奉じ、琉球を冊封いたしました。礼が終わって宴語いたします。王は通事に命じて詞を致させて申しますには「本国は海外の僻地に処し、荒陋が風となっております。康熙二十五年において詔を奉じ、官生阮維新・蔡文溥等三人を遣わして学に入り書を読むことを許されました。今、文教を略知することを得ましたが、皆皇上の賜であります。この三十年来、上請することがありませんでした。今幸いに天が使臣を遣わして国に至らせ給いました。前使汪楫が代請した入学読書の旧例に照らして、遠人が化に向かう意を陳明することを求めます。もし諭允を蒙ることができれば、前例に照らして、再び官生を遣わして入学読書させることを得ば、皇上の文教益々広からん」と。

礼部謹んで題します。奏聞の件について、礼科が抄出します。琉球差し戻し冊封、正使翰林院検討海宝、副使翰林院編修徐葆光等が奏上し、康熙五十九年七月十五日に部に到りました。該当する臣等が議して得たところ、琉球国王冊封の使臣翰林院検討海宝、編修徐葆光等

Memorial Requesting Official Students' Entry into Academy for Study

Dispatched back to Ryukyu Kingdom, Hanlin Academy Reviewer (Minister) Haibao and Compiler (Minister) Xu Baoguang and others respectfully memorialize. Regarding the matter of petition: We ministers, having received the imperial edict, invested and enfeoffed Ryukyu. After the ceremony was completed, we held a banquet and conversation. The king commanded an interpreter to convey his words, saying: "Our country is situated in a remote place beyond the seas, where crude customs have become the norm. In the 25th year of Kangxi, we received an edict permitting us to send three official students—Gen Ishin, Sai Bunpo, and others—to enter the academy and study. Now we have gained some knowledge of literary education, all of which are gifts from His Imperial Majesty. For these thirty years since then, there has been no request made to the court. Now, fortunately, Heaven has sent envoys to our country. We seek to follow the precedent of former envoy Wang Ji's request for academy study, to clearly express the intention of distant peoples turning toward civilization. If we should be granted imperial permission and approval, and could follow the former precedent to again send official students to enter the academy for study, then His Imperial Majesty's literary education would become even more widespread."

The Ministry of Rites respectfully submits: Regarding the matter for imperial attention, the Bureau of Rites has extracted: Dispatched back to Ryukyu for investiture, Principal Envoy Hanlin Academy Reviewer Haibao and Vice Envoy Hanlin Academy Compiler Xu Baoguang and others memorialized, arriving at the ministry on the 15th day of the 7th month of the 59th year of Kangxi.
