三つ目入道が秘蔵の娘ろくろ首を、坂田の金平のところへ生け捕られているという知らせを聞いたので、三つ目入道は手下の化け物どもを呼び集めて、「何とかしてろくろ首を奪い返そう。この役目は誰が行くか、これが行く」と互いに

譲り合っていては埒が明かないので、三つ目入道が進み出て、「さてさて臆病な者たちかな。金平といっても普通の人間である。何を恐れることがあろうか。私一人でこの役目を引き受け申そう。ろくろ首を無事に連れて帰って参りましょう」と、坊主頭を打ち振って、大変楽観的に申したのであった。

Who will take on this task? I'll go, you go," arguing among themselves.

Since their mutual deference was getting them nowhere, the three-eyed nyudo stepped forward and said, "What cowardly fellows you are! Kinpira may be famous, but he's just an ordinary human. What is there to fear? I alone will undertake this mission. I shall bring the rokurokubi back safely." He shook his bald head and spoke with great optimism.
