一九月十三日城半左衞門家来長島刑部左衞門と云ふ者松平伊豆守亭
へ参り御忠節可申上由訟伊豆守出会人を払て其子細を相尋る刑部
左衞門申て云別木庄左衞門林戸右衞門三宅平六藤江又十郎土岐与
左衞門と申浪人共企徒党来る十五日増上寺御法事畢而後十八九日
の内に風を見合増上寺風上へ二三ケ所より放火増上寺を焼失ひ金
銀を可奪取然らは定而御老中為御下知増上寺へ可被出向歟其道々
を相窺待伏せし鉄炮を以て可打殺之其外与党の者は江戸中所々に

**承応元年、別木林以下徒党一件書付**
一、九月十三日、城半左衛門の家来・長島刑部左衛門という者が、松平伊豆守の屋敷へ参り、御忠節申し上げたき旨を訴えた。伊豆守は人払いをして、その子細を尋ねた。刑部左衛門が申すには、「別木庄左衛門・林戸右衛門・三宅平六・藤江又十郎・土岐与左衛門と申す浪人共が徒党を企て、来る十五日の増上寺における御法事が終わった後、十八・九日の内に風の具合を見計らい、増上寺の風上の二、三か所から放火して増上寺を焼き失い、金銀を奪い取ろうとしております。そうなれば、定めて御老中は御下知のため増上寺へ向かわれるでしょう。その道々を窺い、待ち伏せして鉄砲をもって打ち殺す。その他の与党の者は江戸中の所々に徘徊し、一度に火を付けて、天下の成り行きを見極めようと謀っている者たちでございます」云々。伊豆守が問うて言うには、「汝はいかにしてその企てを知ったのか」と。長島は畏まって言うには、「某の養子・一角と申す者は、すなわち土岐与左衛門の弟でございますゆえ、某も共に一味に加わるべき旨を頻りに（勧められ）……」

**Record of the Conspiracy Involving Betsuki, Hayashi, and Others, First Year of Jōō (1652)**
Item: On the thirteenth day of the ninth month, a man called Nagashima Gyōbu-zaemon, a retainer of Shiro Hanzaemon, visited the residence of Matsudaira Izu-no-kami and stated that he wished to report a matter of loyal service. Izu-no-kami dismissed all attendants and inquired into the particulars. Gyōbu-zaemon stated: "A group of rōnin called Betsuki Shōzaemon, Hayashi Toemon, Miyake Heiroku, Fujie Matajūrō, and Toki Yozaemon are plotting a conspiracy. After the memorial Buddhist service at Zōjō-ji on the coming fifteenth day, within the eighteenth or nineteenth day, they plan to watch for a favorable wind and set fires at two or three locations upwind of Zōjō-ji, burning it down and stealing its gold and silver. It is certain that the Senior Councilors will then proceed to Zōjō-ji upon receiving orders. The conspirators plan to lie in wait along the roads and shoot them dead with firearms. Furthermore, their associates plan to roam throughout Edo and simultaneously set fires everywhere, to see how the affairs of the realm unfold." And so forth. Izu-no-kami asked: "How did you come to know of this plot?" Nagashima, speaking with deference, replied: "My adopted son, called Ikkaku, is the younger brother of Toki Yozaemon, and therefore I myself was repeatedly urged to join the conspiracy together with them..."
