右衛門江申聞候は於江戸上野介殿生死相知不申其上品宜不被
仰出内は重而大学殿被召出候品無之城中之若きもの不
骨之憤有之江戸江先月廿九日多川九左衛門月岡次右衛門両
人を以願書差上申候兎角此使不罷帰内は是非相知不申
候に付先御請難仕由に而早速退出なり
一戸田権左衛門にも右之通之返答なり

右衛門に申し聞かせたことは、江戸において上野介殿の生死が分からず、その上品宜しく仰せ出されない内は、重ねて大学殿がお召し出しになることもなく、城中の若い者どもに不満の憤りがあり、江戸へ先月二十九日に多川九左衛門・月岡次右衛門の両人をもって願書を差し上げました。とにかくこの使者が帰らない内は是非とも分からないので、まずはお受けし難いということで、早速退出いたしました。
一 戸田権左衛門にも右の通りの返答でありました。

What was conveyed to Uemon was that in Edo, the life or death of Lord Kōzuke-no-suke is unknown, and moreover, until proper orders are issued, there will be no occasion for Lord Daigaku to be summoned again. The young men in the castle harbor resentful indignation, and on the 29th of last month, a petition was submitted to Edo through Tagawa Kyūzaemon and Tsukioka Jiuemon. In any case, until these messengers return, the situation cannot be determined, so it is difficult to accept [the proposal] for now, and [they] promptly withdrew.
