頭 上江之御存念は無之義に被思召候然上は其所を相
守御城無滞引渡可申義内匠殿存念にも相叶家中
之士共忠節にも被思召候御目付中江申上候儀御目付中
了簡には難及儀定而可達 上聞候然上は大学様
御一門方御為不宜義と思召候右之通に候得は家中之者共
も納得可仕儀と思召候皆共いかゝ了簡仕候哉と被申候故段々
被入御念御意之趣奉畏候申聞候は納得可仕と奉存候
得共其段難計御座候御目付中様当御地被成御座候
は尚亦存寄をも可申上候得共先達而御立之義に

頭（かしら）、上への御存念（ご意向）はない義と思し召されます。然る上は、その所を相守り、御城を滞りなく引き渡し申すべき義は、内匠殿の存念にも相叶い、家中の士共の忠節とも思し召されます。御目付中へ申し上げる儀は、御目付中の了簡には及び難い義で、定めて上聞に達するでしょう。然る上は、大学様や御一門方の御為には宜しくない義と思し召されます。右の通りでございますれば、家中の者共も納得いたすべき義と思し召されます。皆共、いかが了簡いたしますかと仰せられた故、段々御念を入れられた御意の趣、畏れ奉ります。申し聞かせますには、納得いたすべきと存じ奉りますが、その段は計り難く御座います。御目付中様が当御地にいらっしゃいますならば、なお又存じ寄りをも申し上げることができますが、先達ての御立ちの義により

The head [retainer] believes there are no particular intentions toward the higher authorities. In that case, protecting that place and smoothly handing over the castle would align with Lord Takumi's intentions and would be considered loyal service by the retainers of the domain. Reporting to the metsuke is beyond their judgment and will surely reach the ears of the higher authorities. In that case, this would not be favorable for Lord Daigaku and the related family members. Given this situation, he believes the domain retainers would also find this acceptable.
