昨五日赤穂家老中より多川九左衛門月岡次右衛門両使を以
書付差越意趣は家中之輩一筋に主人をしたひ御
法式之義存忘赤穂之城離散之義歎ケ敷存候旨
に候此義は当御地不案内故一図に存寄たる趣無余義
事に候得共内匠頭殿日来之存念奉重 公儀
勤仕之事に候得は城無滞相渡速に離散之義

右の趣旨を書付にして両使の内蔵助に渡した
一、田中権左衛門が帰参した節、采女正殿が赤穂に差し置かれた戸田権左衛門に下された御書の写し【蔵書印】
昨日五日、赤穂家老中より多川九左衛門、月岡次右衛門の両使をもって書付を差し越した。その意趣は、家中の輩が一筋に主人に従い、御法式の義を存じ忘れ、赤穂の城を離散することを嘆かわしく存ずる旨である。この義は当御地に不案内故、一途に思い寄ったる趣は無余儀ないことであるが、内匠頭殿日頃の存念は公儀を重んじ勤仕することであるから、城を滞りなく相渡し速やかに離散すべき義である

Yesterday on the fifth day, the Ako senior retainers sent a written message through two envoys, Tagawa Kyuzaemon and Tsukioka Jiuemon. The intent was that the domain retainers unanimously follow their lord, forgetting proper protocol, and lamenting the abandonment of Ako castle. While this matter arises from unfamiliarity with local customs and their single-minded devotion is understandable, since Lord Takumi-no-kami's long-held intention was to revere and serve the shogunate, the castle should be handed over without delay and [the retainers] should disperse quickly.
