兵衛方江手紙に而申達す物頭矢田惣左衛門原惣右衛門両人招之
申談候は先頃江戸江被差遣候両士只今に而も罷帰候は我等共
旅宿江直に立寄被申候様各より道迄人御出し可被置候江戸
之様子承届其上に而可及相談と申候処右両士帰着直に御城江
乗込申候に付八嶋惣右衛門早速罷越則致同道旅宿江参候先々
江戸之様子相尋候処采女正様より御答計持参に而士中納得
も可仕筋之由相聞候に付其段申談帰す

一、四月十二日、戸田権左衛門、井上団右衛門が相談して、大石内蔵助、大野九郎兵衛の元へ手紙で申し伝えた。物頭の矢田惣左衛門、原惣右衛門の両人を招いて相談したのは、先頃江戸へ派遣した両士が今頃帰参するなら、我々の旅宿へ直接立ち寄るよう、各自より道まで人を出して待機させておこう、江戸の様子を聞き届けた上で相談に及ぼうということであった。ところが右の両士は帰着すると直接御城へ乗り込んだため、八嶋惣右衛門が早速出向いて同道し、旅宿へ参った。まず江戸の様子を尋ねたところ、采女正様からの御返答のみ持参しており、士中も納得できる筋合いだと聞いたので、その旨を話し合って帰した。

1. On April 12th, Toda Gonzaemon and Inoue Dan'emon consulted together and sent word by letter to Oishi Kuranosuke and Ono Kurobyoe. They summoned the two unit commanders (monogashira) Yada Sozaemon and Hara Soemon to discuss the following: Since the two samurai who were sent to Edo some time ago should be returning about now, they should have people stationed along the road so that when these men return, they would come directly to our lodgings. They wanted to hear about the situation in Edo before proceeding with consultations. However, when these two samurai returned, they went directly to the castle, so Yashima Soemon quickly went out, accompanied them, and came to the lodgings. When they first inquired about the situation in Edo, they learned that the men had brought only a response from Lord Uneme-no-sho, and that it was something the samurai retainers could accept, so they discussed this matter and sent them back.
