一人では処理が困難であるため、番頭共の内で代々家老の家筋の者一人が出向くようにすべきかと伺ったところ、その通りもっともなことであるとのことで、奥野将監が出向いて引き渡しを済ませました。
一 九郎兵衛が逃亡した経緯については、札奉行の岡嶋八十右衛門に借金があったようで、城中で九郎兵衛が誰かに話したとのことです。これを聞いた八十右衛門は不届きなことと思い、四月十一日に九郎兵衛の宅へ出向いて面会したい旨を申し出ました。しかし用事があるとのことで出てこず、そのため茶の間口まで押しかけたところ、仕切りの戸を差して内に入れませんでした。そのため八十右衛門は「何とお考えでこのようになさるのですか。用事があって参りましたので、ぜひお目にかからなければ帰るわけにはいきません」と詰め寄りましたが、九郎兵衛は色々と言い逃れをして面会しませんでした。

One: Regarding the circumstances of Kurōbei's flight, it appears that Fuda-bugyō (License Magistrate) Okajima Yasōemon had some financial dealings [debts] with him, and Kurōbei had spoken about this to someone in the castle. Upon hearing this, Yasōemon considered it improper and on the 11th day of the 4th month went to Kurōbei's residence requesting an audience. However, [Kurōbei] did not come out, claiming to be busy, so [Yasōemon] pressed forward to the tea room entrance, but the sliding door was barred and he could not enter. Therefore, Yasōemon said, "What do you mean by behaving in this manner? I have come here on business, so I absolutely must see you and cannot return without doing so," and pressed him insistently. However, [Kurōbei] made various excuses and would not meet with him.
